Great cake, also had to thicken up the frosting, which was fine as the first lot soaked in and made it more margarita like.

It was ok. It didn't really taste like margarita's and though it tasted good, I wouldn't make this again.

I made this in 2007 as the recipe calls for (exept I used strawberry cake mix b/c thats what I had) and it turned out plesantly good. The adults thought it was a very nice cake and the kids were wishing they were adults to try it. I made this again in 2009 and I followed some of the advices in the review poll (more of this, more of that if you know what I mean). I would recommend the recipe to be followed as is. Maybe you can change the cake mix flavoring and adjust the icing to taste- I did double amount of icing both times, one for when the cake was still warm and the last before serving. PLease give this cake a try as is first.

This cake was GREAT!! I made it with a few changes: I used Betty Crocker Super Moist French Vanilla box cake, orange juice instead of water, and lime juice instead of lemon juice. I doubled the glaze and when I took it out of the oven, I poked holes in the bottom and put about 1/2 cup of it in and let it sit for ~10 minutes, then flipped it out on a wire rack and put the 1/3 of the remaining glaze on, waited 30 min, put 1/3 more on and waited 30 more min and put the last 1/3 on. Then, after the glaze had hardened, I squeezed lime juice on the cake and sprinkled coarse salt all over it. People really loved the sweet/salty combo, I got tons of compliments on this cake. Thanks for the recipe! :)

This is the first review I've done and glad to say this cake is a keeper! It was a big hit at a Mexican theme pot luck I took it too! I did double up the glaze and added an extra shot of tequila and 1/4 of the glaze to the top of the cake while in the pan before turning it out on the rack to cool. I also used a white cake with lime juice instead of lemon. I'll be making this one again!

I used the lemon cake mix as everyone seemed to suggest, and I also used orange juice instead of water. The cake still just tasted like lemon cake. The glaze was far too runny and tasted like slightly margarita flavored powdered sugar. Made it to take to a dinner party, and now I need to make something else instead because it didn't turn out well at all.

I recently made this cake for an office b-day and it was a huge hit. I had to use lemon cake mix also as I couldn't find the orange however, I added an extra 1/2 tsp of triple sec (as it is orange flavored) to try and cut down the "lemony cake taste" and it did help. Very easy to make and already giving out the recipe to everyone!

This was the best. I'd been waiting for 2 months to have an ocassion to make it! I couldn't find an orange cake mix so I added 1 TBSP orange extract to a yellow cake mix. [Also, I tried the margarita salt on half, but didn't care for it on the cake.] Everyone raved about it.

I first made this cake for a company lunch on May 12, 2009. Since then I have had to make three more. Everyone loves it so much I hated sharing the recipe.

This was a hit at this years Cinco de Mayo party. I did change the recipe a bit and added pineapple tequila instead of plain. Also orange juice instead of water. YUM YUM!

No orange cake mix so I used Lemon. I used an already prepared Margarita mix. Turned out great. I even tried it with Strawberry Margarita mix. Next time I think I'll try it with a regular yellow cake mix.

I used the Jose Cuervo mini margaritas everywhere it called for separate margarita ingredients...I also followed many of the other reviewer's advice and used yellow cake mix, replaced the oil with applesauce, and made 2 seperate batches of the icing with one of them only using half of the liquid ingredients. When the cake came out of the oven, I poke holes in it and drizzled half of the thin batch of icing on it. I let it cool for about 10 minutes, then turned it onto a plate and poured the other half of the icing on...I waited about a half hour before drizzling the thicker icing on. SOOOO GOOD!! Doesn't taste too "alcohol-y" or sweet, believe it or not.

Awesome cake for a fiesta night!! I altered the recipe a little to make it with more umph. I used Cuervo for the cake and Grand Marnier where it calls for Triple Sec. Then poked the holes and put a shot of Patron Silver over the cake fresh out of the oven. I put 1/2 of the glaze on it after the shot (I used 1800 silver for the glaze). Let it cool for 15 minutes and flipped it on a serving tray. I then put the rest of the glaze of the first batch on the cake. Then I made a second batch with half of the liquid it called for. It made it nice and not too thick. Lay it on and ENJOY!

I liked this cake, but think I'll try it with the lemon cake next time. I thickened the glaze quite a bit as well and poured some over the bottom of the warm cake as suggested.

This recipe ROCKS! It kinda made me feel like Sandra Lee - using mixes - but hey...it was amazing! I noticed in the reviews that not many people could find an orange cake mix, and neither could I, so I substituted a lemon one. I added some lime zest on top and it was good to go. It was a huge hit! I've made it twice and loved it both times.

Great, easy, though I made some changes. Here is what I did: 1 box of yellow cake mix, 1 sm pack of vanilla pudding, 1/2c applesauce (replaced oil), 1/4c margarita mix, 1/4c tequila, 2T each of Triple Sec and Lime juice. Mix and cook per cake mix instructions (350 for ~40 min). Here is the big improvement -- the glaze is 1c regular sugar, 1/4c butter, 1/4c margarita mix, 1/2c tequila, splash of water, boiled for 5 min and then slowly drizzled over the cake once it is cool. Prick the entire top of the cake with a toothpick and over an hour add spoonfuls of the glaze. Slow is key for it to saturate the cake -- YUM! I dusted it with powdered sugar to pretty it up since the glaze is clear.
