Slow Cooker Country-Style Spareribs

Submitted by: Julie Maw
A sweet and tangy sauce makes these tender ribs extra special. Layer spareribs, onions, bell pepper and celery in a slow cooker. Pour tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice over the top, and take a nice, long break.

Pork spareribs are rubbed with a sweet and spicy dry rub, slowly smoked over red wine and fruits, then finished on the grill with a sticky barbeque sauce. A chimney smoker with a water pan is ideal for this recipe.

While this is a perfect glaze for barbecuing ribs, you can also prepare this meal in the oven.

I always keep this dry rub in a shaker on my shelf so I have it ready to use in an instant. It's a deliciously different way to prepare barbecued ribs.

I usually make this as an appetizer. Always a hit. It's so easy and quick. Great for potluck, although it's never enough!

After searching the internet for a good Chinese Spareribs recipe and not finding any that caught my eye, I decided to make my own. This recipe is pretty simple, and yields tender, juicy, tangy ribs. In Japan, I cooked this in the fish broiler, but it should be fine on the grill or in the oven.

Just the tempting aroma of these ribs reminds me of many simple but delicious meals mom made. Dad especially loved these tender tasty ribs with their thick, tangy sauce. Mom liked them because the sauce was no fuss to make. -- Ruth Ann Stelfox, Raymond, Alberta
