I usually love these types of salads. But the vinagrette, in this one had a slight twang that nobody enjoyed and everyone commented on.

While the salad part is a bit boring and typical, the dressing is excellent and I will make it again. I did add some thinly sliced red onion to the salad and that was a good addition.

I absolutely LOVED this salad. However, it was apparently a bit too "weird" for my husband's taste... I was instructed to never put fruit on his salad again! But hey, he's stuck in his ways and is more of a meat & potato guy than a salad connoisseur anyway. I thought the toasted walnuts were wonderful and the mandarin oranges added a nice, light sweetness. BUT, the real shining star of this recipe is the dressing!!! OH MY!!! It is "out of this world delicious"! Even my husband had to agree with me on this one! I made a double batch of the citrus vinagrette and we used it later in the week on a spinach salad with diced avacado. YUMMY! I will make this dressing again and again... if you follow it exactly, you cannot go wrong.

One of my favorites. For variation, substitute Pear Nectar for Orange Juice and sliced pears for the Mandarin oranges.

This salad was delicious and the dressing was SPECTACULAR! I didn't have orange juice, so I put a few pieces of mandarin in the blender and made my own mandarin juice as a substitute. I replaced the honey with white sugar, and used sesame oil instead of olive oil; I used only about 3/4 of the garlic clove and it was just fine. We enjoyed the dressing so much that we were drinking it from the plates (bad manners much, I know!). As for the salad, I pretty much tossed in everything I could find: mung bean sprouts, half a cucumber, an apple, slivered almonds, cooked & sliced eggs... I didn't have walnuts though, but it was delicious anyway. I'll definitely try this again! Yummm!

Delicious versatile dressing on refreshing summer faire! Make it a meal by adding grilled chicken. My family loves candied pecans as a topper!

This salad was ok, not great. It needed something else, next time I will follow Stepani's advice and add sesame oil and maybe some dried cranberries.

Tried with seasame oil and more more balsamic...it was delicious. Added marinated chicken breast, dried cranberries and a little red pepper too. My husband and I both really enjoyed it. This is a great dressing for Weight Watchers folks...only 1 point per serving and that's a lot of yummy dressing.

Dressing was very "thin," no substance. Flavor was good, but my hubby suggested that it wasn't tart enough.

Of all the orange salad recipes on this site, this one has the most potential in the dressing. The dressing alone merits 5 stars, though I do think the rest of the salad could have a little more substance. It's perfect as a flavorful side salad as is, but to make it a meal, I would take some of the recommendations and add dried cranberries, or maybe some thin strips of chicken to make it more filling. But, as it stands, great fast recipe.

This is VERY good. I gave it 4 stars because I think the dressing should be changed a little. Use SESAME OIL instead of olive oil and use 2 TBSP. of balsamic instead of 2 teaspoons. Your Dressing will be much more flavorful and authentic. I also took the suggestion for the dried cranberries, very nice touch! It also helps if you use a high quality dijon.

This is a solid recipe. I wish I had honey on hand, instead I used sugar. I went easy on the garlic per a previous tip. I also added shallots to the dressing before shaking it all together and pouring over the greens. Thanks for the great recipe!

The dressing on this recipe was AWESOME!!! I think you could change up the actual salad ingredients and still come out with a winner. My girl friends all asked for the recipe after our luncheon (but my kids didn't like it at all--I guess it was too different for them). Would be a great bridal or baby shower salad.
