INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, grated
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease one 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla, orange rind and juice.
  3. In another bowl, put flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Stir in grated chocolate and nuts. Pour into first bowl. Stir all together until moistened. Spoon into a greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
  4. Bake in 325 degree F (165 degree C) oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes. Remove loaf from pan to cool on cake rack. Wrap.
