These were DELISH! I made them for my hubs to take to work this week, and he ate most of them this weekend! I used whole wheat dough, and I did find it difficult to work with. I wound up working the dough into discs on a small plate, then added leftover Honeybaked Ham & swiss. I found the egg "glue" actually made it more difficult to seal the edges, so I just used it as a wash on top. I found folding them away from me made them much easier to seal, and they did get easier to make as I went on. I popped them in the oven and kept a close on on them to see if they were coming apart or exploding. A couple did, so I took them back out right away and resealed them. I found that the dough was MUCH more cooperative and it was MUCH easier to seal after it was heated a bit. I didn't have any problems with them staying together after that. I baked them about 15 minutes, took them out, flipped, and baked a couple minutes more. I still have ham left so I think I will make some more this week yet. Next time I may try a puffed pastry sheet instead of the dough just cuz it seems easier to work with. Definitely give these a try though! ***Update*** - the doug really does work fine for these provided you don't overwork it the way I did the first time! The 2nd time around it seemed like I had way more dough than the first and I was able to stuff these fuller. They still started coming apart in the oven, but I was able to pinch them shut and they all turned out perfect!

I used taven ham from the deli department and sliced swiss cheese, which worked pretty well. I didn't fill it as much as I should have. Ended up cooking it for over 20 minutes and finally put it on broil in order to brown the tops. Took it to a tailgate and my 4 and 6 year olds liked it! My 6 year old ate 2! I like the versatility of this dish! Hubby was already figuring out other ideas like using pretzel dough!

If you don't have any frozen dough "Best Bread Machine Bread" from this site works wonderfully with this recipe. Place a large piece of plastic wrap on the counter, place the dough ball on top then place another piece of plastic wrap over the top, push down with your hand, then roll out over the plastic wrap. This makes less mess and you end up with a pretty good circle. Remove the top piece, add filling, then fold over plastic wrap, closing the dough over its self. Move the handwich to a plate to apply the egg wash. If you do it like this you wont have dough on your rolling pin, counter, or sticking to your hands.

WOW! Why did I not think of this years ago? My kids (13,9) love the crustless PB&J frozen sandwiches so I think I will try to put a TBS or so of peanut butter and Jelly. The options are truely endless. We can take these to the pool as well as a healthy easy snack. I will be making these often. I too used frozen dinner rolls.

Frozen bread dough is not something I normally keep at hand and since I've been wanting to try 'Jay's Signature Pizza Crust', this was a marriage of two great recipes. Once I rolled out small balls of the dough (mine never did form circles... they were more like ovalish- amoeba shapes..), I just mounded what appeared to be an ample amount of ham/cheese filling, then folded half the dough over, pressed with fork tines and then did a tuck/roll/fold of the excess dough to ensure a non-leaky filling. A bake time of 17 minutes was perfect. Once cool, I individually froze these, so whenever the snack craving hits, it just takes 55 seconds at half power in the nuker to reheat. Yes, a little labor intensive, but sooo much less expensive than those found in the freezer case in the grocery store. And for that, I thank you Callie Myers.

I am having a little bit of trouble with this one. While I liked the concept, kudos for that, the execution produced less than desired results. I have noticed that most of the good reviews were the result of changing something- either using pizza dough, dinner rolls, adding sauce, etc. so those weren't really the original recipe. I made the recipe as written, and I just didn't have very good results. It was probably just me and my techinque, but for starters, the bread dough was just not rolling out. I was afraid to use too much extra flour to help me spread it, as I didn't want to change the composition of the dough. So I used one "round" for the bottom, and one round for the top but still they just weren't all that big, therefore they did not hold much filling. However when they baked, they baked up big and beautiful, only trouble was that there was very little filling on the inside. So there was all this lovely bread and about one bite of filling inside. I do love the idea and I will try again as my son loves hot pockets and they are $3 for a box of two, and when he and his friends get the late night munchies, they will devour box after box after box. I really hate to leave bad reviews, especially after so many good ones, I don't want to be the only debbie-downer, but I didn't have very good results with the frozen bread dough but I really liked the idea. I thank you though for your creativity and for sharing the idea.

Very tasty, my husband loved them & wanted seconds. I used thawed frozen rolls instead of a bread loaf. I also stuffed with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese & pepperoni instead of ham & swiss. The possibilities are endless!
