I made this bread with the ingredients recommended and it had a very mild flavor. Most of the breads I make are spiced or with something in them for a bit of WOW factor. This bread is less dominate than anything you wish to use it with. A very good sandwich bread perhaps. My first taste was just with a bit of real butter. I guess I just like breads that slap your tongue around a bit and make its presence in your mouth known.

This truly is a great bread recipe that blows away any white bread. Make it and you'll agree.

What a fantastic bread! This is only the 3rd loaf of bread I've ever made but it was so easy, delicious and impressed the whole crew. I don't have a bread machine and followed Jules's instructions. Thanks!

Great bread recipe. It is just like the 50/50 wholemeal I usually make, but with the added goodness of oatmeal. I used canola oil instead of butter. I will be making this again.

I use this recipe often. The only difference is I knead it in the bread machine and then put it in a bread pan and let rise and bake it in the oven. I make it often because people keep asking for it.

The bread was very good. It was not dry and was light. I did make the recipe in the bread machine.

This is a good bread. It was not quite as light as I thought it would be. I did substitute 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of whole wheat flour and added vital wheat gluten. I will try it again with out the whole wheat flour.

I love dense bread, so this one is perfect for me. I used a really old bread machine, which hadn't been used in a few years, so I don't know if that contributed to the denseness or not. Regardless, I LOVE it.

This was a pretty good bread and very easy to make. Its an excellent bread for sandwiches. My bread machine has a 2lb capacity, I used the light setting and it came out perfect. I did use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour. We do like our bread a bit sweeter so next time I think I may add some Splenda. But this was pretty good especially for how easy it was.

The same thing happened to me as Courtney. The dough was so wet during the first kneading that it was clear it needed more flour. It ended up like a wet brick. I agree with Courtney, I usually use bread machine flour rather than all purpose - maybe that was the problem?

Awesome! I have used a lot of bread machine recipes and this one is a keeper! Super duper moist. I did add buttermilk in place of some of the water and added just a bit of olive oil and some ground golden flax and rosemary. Sooo good!
