'THE PIES were baked a few days before the holiday gathering and then placed in a tall pie safe on our back porch. My father called this 'royal pie', fit for a king with its deliciously different flavor. This is another hand-me-down recipe, a treasure in our family.'

Take a bite of this classic Southern dessert and you'll never guess it's been lightened up. The pleasing pie gets great fall flavor from a hint of pumpkin spice. --Test Kitchen

For this luscious pie's filling, sweet potatoes are mashed and combined with egg, sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and cream. Pecans are combined with brown sugar and butter to make a rich caramelized topping that's spooned onto the cooked pie before it's slipped under the broiler for a moment or two.

This recipe is very popular here in the South. It's a particular favorite at our house because we always have plenty of sweet potatoes in our garden. Try it with a dollop of whipped cream.

You can really taste the sweet potatoes in this creamy wonderful pie. There 's buttermilk stirred into the filling and a bit of baking soda, sugar, eggs, flour, and a smidgen of butter. There 's a bit of vanilla, but no spices, so the finished pie is mostly sweet potato.

This sweet potato pie is made very creamy with evaporated milk and gets a bit of a kick with rum. Along with sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs and butter, all the ingredients are put into a food processor and blended until very smooth. Then the filling goes into a pie crust and bakes for less than an hour.
