I cut the amount of oil in half, used honey instead of the sugar, and subbed red onion for the green onion. This is a tasty salad!

I was excited about trying this recipe particularly since I liked the idea of using lemon to freshen the taste but unfortunately I did not care for this as a salad. I much prefer lentils in a soup, however, I do use lemon juice in my soup as it does brighten the flavor.

This recipe was alright. I love lentils, but I probably won't make it again. I thought that it was bland and that there was just wayyy too much sugar in it for my taste. I also grew up in a diabetic house and rarely ever add sugar to anything. I feel like I could geta better flavor just by adding lemon juice to the lentils.

I just finished making this and had to have a small bowl right away. It is very tasty. Not too tangy from the lemon. I can see using this recipe as a jumping off point for other recipes. The dressing alone could be a great salad vinagrette. Next time I am going to try using canned beans. I am thinking black eyed peas.

great recipe - though it needed more lemon and more salt.

This was pretty good. I made it the night before to let the flavors meld. It would have benefited from an addition or more lemon juice just before serving, and a bit more salt. I added chopped carrots (very lightly steamed) and red pepper.

Really yummy and my six year old ate it up and asked if I would give the recipe to Daddy. I did add about double the lemon and some lemon zest.

This is a really unusual salad. I wouldn't make it if you are new to lentils. I will probably try it again though.

Oh my gosh, yummy! Kept mostly the same, except ran out of lentils, only had 3/4 cup on hand, and added tri-color orzo. Also added garlic salt to the regular chopped garlic. Thanks for this recipe!

The salad was good but didn't wow me. I used Trader Joe's lentils which kept their firmness well. I added grated carrots and celery per other reviews. I'll probably tweak the recipe to give it better flavor.

What an awesome recipe! Mine was not mushy at all, I think it depends on what type of lentil you use. I used black beluga lentils, but I think red chief cooks pretty quickly (which might have been the previous reviewer's problem). I added an extra clove of garlic, and next time I'll sub one tablespoon of olive oil for another tablespoon of lemon juice. Refreshing, adaptable summer salad that's a great way to get folic acid and protein!

Wonderful recipe! I used black lentils & we were out of green so I used these little red pearl onions instead. Rinse the lentils with cold water after cooking, helps keep them from getting mushy.

I have been searching for a delicious lentil salad recipe like that at a local French restaurant - the main difference is that the restaurant recipe uses apples. So I took this recipe and substituted one chopped apple for the tomato, and used apple cider vinegar. Also, I bought a 17.6 oz package of precooked lentils from Trader Joe's, and left out the parsley. Everyone in the house loved it - even my teenage boys! Yum!

So, at first I wasn't *wowed* by this recipe...but I found that the longer it sat, the more I found myself going back to munch on it. It's a great, healthier alternative to pasta salad, so I'll be making this again this summer, for sure. So, I gave it 4 stars because it isn't the most incredible taste sensation ever, but it is very good.

I didn't know lentils could taste this good! I had to give the recipe to everyone at a family bbq in the weekend, thanks so much for sharing it. I have made it twice and the second time I added some fetta cheese and finely chopped red peppers for extra crunch - yum!

Mmmmmmmmmmmm. I added a bit of salt to the lentils while they were cooking (which were excellent to eat just flavored with the bay leaf). When I put together the salad dressing I was out of thyme (ha-ha), so I ended up using 1/2 oregano and 1/2 marjoram, and sliced the garlic (to remove later). This was REALLY good. I needed a side for Tikka Masala - this went really well. Thanks!

I really liked this, as did my husband, who said this was the first lentil dish he ever liked! That said, I left out the tomatoes, parsley, and green onion, and I heated it through to have as a hot side dish. Thanks!

Really good flavor. Just like the other reviewer, I need to cook the lentils less time because they were mushy. I am going to try 20 minutes next time. The salad had great flavor and I added shredded carrots, chopped bok choy and 1 tsp. cumin to it! It was yummy and a great change from my other salads.
