The only downside I feel to this recipe is the addition of oil to the cake mix. Butter gives a much better texture and flavor. It also helps overcome the "cake mix" taste which, to some, is not pleasant. You still know it is cake mix but tastes less oily and richer.

There are much better recipes. I really did not like the box cake mix with oil and an egg. I used lemon cake mix. I used a real lemon and zest. It was dry. It tasted lemony. Can do much better from scratch.

These were good. I sifted XXX sugar on top when warm. Next time maybe I would double the filing and leave the crust like the recipe says. Nice summer dessert.

I liked these bars! They were a little on the dry side, but I didn't mind because the taste made up for it. Instead of the lemon extract the recipe calls for, I used 1 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice. Along with that I added a little bit of the lemon zest. I also slightly underbaked them - pulling them out at 21 minutes,to help cut down on the dryness. They tasted real "lemony", yet not tart at all. Vey simple to make and I will definetly make them again!

The recipe was very easy to make but was very dry. There was not really a lemon taste to it. I would more call it cheese bars. I was expecting them to be soft and chewy but they turned out very dry. I even baked them for 25minutes which was the lowest amount of time. I won't make them again just because they were so dry.

So good and easy! I added lemon zest from 2 small lemons - 1 to the crust, 1 to the filling - to get more natural lemon flavor. This seems like it'd be a great base recipe for other flavors - I think I might swirl some strawberry jam into the filling next time.

Wow! I was having a lemon craving for the longest time, was out of butter so came in search of a recipe involving cake mix and lemons! This was delicious! I used a lemon cake mix for an extra lemon zing and everyone loved it!

I can't believe no reviews have been posted about this dessert! 5 stars are not enough. I make these for every function and holiday feast and I'm always asked for the recipe. I LOVE lemon so I make it with lemon cake mix instead of white but either way you have a winner.
