This is wonderful! I've made these cookies since the early seventies! But bananas, coconut, almonds! Are you kidding me? This is basically Scottish shortbread with vanilla, chocolate chips, and pecans! My recipe calls for 12 ounces of chips, and 1/2 tsp more of vanilla. If it tastes bitter, like one person says, you've burned it! Believe me, this is crucial! I've ruined a few batches by overcooking
Really watch them, don't let it brown on edges too much! This is not meant to be a bar cookie! Don't try to turn it into one! Again if it tastes bitter or strong, it's been baked too long. Also, use the right size pan, you must use the 10x15 jelly roll pan cookie sheets are too big. The pieces should be thick and small, and crumbly! Don't be put off by the weird crumbly texture of raw dough, its better mixed with your hands, then dump it into the pan and press it around until its basically the same thickness. Use milk chocolate if you want to make sure it doesn't turn bitter! Flavor is milder too.By the way the best nuts for this is pecans!
