'This sweet and tangy basting sauce came from my husband's family,' says Jenine Schmidt of Stoughton, Wisconsin. 'With just four ingredients, it's simple to stir up,' she adds. A speedy alternative to bottled sauce, it can be brushed on chicken, ribs, pork or even turkey.

Green Pea Sauce

This green pea sauce adds a very nice flavor to mashed potatoes, and the combination goes very well along with steak. To reduce the amount of fat in the sauce I like to use evaporated milk. You can use cream instead, but I think the lower-fat-version is just as tasty!

'I've been serving this tangy seafood sauce for over 30 years, and I'm always asked for the recipe,' says Carolyn Chapman, Snohomish, Washington. 'Low in fat and easy to make, it's a great seafood sauce to serve with a cold shrimp as an appetizer. The recipe is easy to halve or double, too. I've found it's usually smart to make extra. It goes so fast!'

This is an excellent cranberry sauce that is good year round. Buy cranberries in November or December and freeze them so that you can make this sauce throughout the year. The prepared sauce freezes very well.
