I have never made homemade sauce.... and let me tell you this one was so easy and really really yummy! I did cut it down to one onion and one bell pepper....and I added one tiny can of tomato paste a little bit of water... I cooked it slowly in the crock pot. It turned out wonderful!!!!! I'm making it for a staff meeting in a week or so and going to double up the recipe. We'll see what everyone says.... :) Thank you for sharing this!

I love this recipe!! I never made spaghetti sauce before and it turned out wonderfully. No tomato paste is needed because the meat thickens the sauce the longer you let it simmer. Thank you bizzy momma for posting this one :)

I am also Italian. My aunt would grate up a carrot for sweetness instead of adding sugar. I am surprised this recipe is Italian and does not call for garlic???? I remember watching my mother make spaghetti sauce probably once a week. My job was to add a little water and stir while it brewed all afternoon. My father would say at the dinner table, "you're eating your native dish tonight!"

Tasted good. I only made 2 servings of this recipe and didn't use the ground beef and I used fresh tomatoes instead of canned. After tasting the results, I added some leftover "Simple Arrabbiata Sauce" from the fridge. Used the sauce mixture for my "Ricotta Stuffed Squash."

I made this recipe for a senior citizen dinner. Thought I was only having about 30-40 ended up with 50 attending, so I had to keep adding water. It didn't take away from the taste. I did add 6 small cans of tomato paste and extra ingredients even though I had figured the recipe for 40. I also simmered it on low all day. Got rave reviews, the only complaint was that there wasn't more and that it was a little too thin for some. Not the recipes fault.

I was expecting more from this recipe and was disappointed that I didn't get it :( I ended up having to add a lot of red pepper flakes, more italian seasoning and some red wine to balance the flavors out.

Excellent homemade spaghetti sauce! We had lots of fresh tomatoes from our garden to use, so I blanched, peeled, seeded, and diced them for this recipe. I used only one green pepper; any more would have overpowered the rest of the ingredients. Since I wasn't using the ground beef, I sauteed the onion, pepper, and garlic in 2 T. olive oil as indicated in the intro. I used only 1 T. brown sugar, since some reviewers indicated that it was a bit sweet. I used about 1 t. salt and 1/2 t. pepper and added a bay leaf. After simmering uncovered about 1 hour, I pureed the sauce with my stick blender and added a 6 oz. can of tomato paste to thicken to the right consistency. Yummy!

WOWZERS! Yum. I did not have stewed tomatoes so I used diced tomatoes with green chilies. I used ground turkey omitted the green peppers and used 12 leaves of fresh basil and also went with the 1 TBSP brown sugar. This was delish! Love it!

I like this, but the next time I will leave out the green pepper. I love green pepper, but not in my spaghetti sauce. Otherwise, I would have given this a five star rating.

Good and simple recipe. I made this dish for my husband and kids and they enjoyed it. I omitted the green pepper because I didn't have any and added some fresh basil. Served over whole wheat spaghetti.

Wow, I didn't think I would like this as much as I did because it sounded just like a basic meat sauce, but I really enjoyed it! I used just a 14 oz can of stewed tomatoes because I like a chunkier sauce and I used just one bell pepper. Will definitely make this again, thanks for a great easy recipe!

I used Italian sausage instead of beef, and ended up grinding the sausage in the blender with the tomatoes because it wasn't breaking into small enough pieces when cooking. I also like to sneak in a zuchinni blended for extra nutrition. Turned out very good, and even made enough to freeze some for later.

This is a fantastic recipe. I followed it exactly with the exception of omitting the salt and pepper as I felt it didn't really need it. It was a big hit. My husband said it was my best spaghetti sauce yet! I did brown everything in a large skillet first and drained the excess fat off. It was absolutely delicious! Thanks for sharing!

This should be called a meat sauce, tasted good but not much sauce to cling to the spaghetti, too watery/thin for me.

This recipe was a great base, but I felt it needed a bit more flavour so I added red wine, and let it simmer down a bit. It was wonderful.
