I used butter and followed another reader's instruction to butter the breasts under the skin, also filled with garlic cloves and put the onion outside the chicken with the potato pieces and carrots I roasted with it. My husband said he'd rather have this than KFC Original - high praise! I never thought we would enjoy roast chicken more than fried!

This is SUPER juicy! I didn't have any onion powder on hand, so I used some onion soup mix that I had...very tasty and easy to make!

Juicy? YES! Although I will say that I made the mistake of using butter instead of margerine and it turned out very buttery...greasy buttery. But, the flavor was great and my husband still loved it. I'll follow the exact directions next time! My leftovers went right into a stock pot for chicken and dumplings for tomorrow night. Yum!

I will never cook a chicken in the slow cooker again!! This was fabulous...so tender and moist!! Had to use garlic powder as I had no onion powder. Will try onion powder next time. Even my 3 year old (who seems to only like peanut butter at the moment) was asking for more!! So simple even my husband said he could do this...WOW!!

I have made a ton of roasted chickens before, and I didn't tell my fiance this one was different, before he even ate a second bite he commented on how juicy this bird was! I made it exactly as it said (I had a much 7lb roaster so the cooking time was longer) and it was amazing! Have no idea how these simple ingredients did the trick, but they did!

This is the first time I've made a whole chicken. It turned out really juicy and good. But, I wish the meat had a little more flavor.

I LOVE roasted chicken, and have my share of recipes I use on a rotational basis so as not to get bored of the same flavors...but this recipe, by far, is THE BEST ROASTED CHICKEN I HAVE EVER MADE! I changed it up a bit from the original recipe based on other reviewers...I added about a half inch of white wine (I used a Pinot Grigio) to the bottom of the pan, and I added celery salt generously over the whole chicken and omitted the onion salt and added garlic powder. A favorite from this day forth!

This was OK. It was juicy but also very oily. I found I had to leave it in almost 2 hrs to cook it fully.

One of the best roasted chicken dinners I have ever made or tasted. I added 1 cup of white wine to the bottom of the roasting pan and some fresh sprigs of thyme. Was wonderful with steamed green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. Will make for years to come!

Very tasty! I used 1 tbsp butter in cavity and 1 tbsp on top. I put 2 crushed garlic cloves and a sprig of rosemary in the cavity. I put 1 sprig of rosemary, stalk of celery and a quartered onion in the roasting pan with water to stop them from burning. If your chicken has a "slimy bottom" as someone had mentioned, use a rack in your roaster, which I did or buy air chilled chickens VS water chilled since they have no added water.

this.. is....GOOD. i followed the recipe but added some onions and green peppers to the inside of the chicken since i had some leftover bits and pieces from earlier in the week. i used garlic powder.. its what i had and this not only smelled good but the whole house smelled good too. i served this with roasted potatoes and carrots. this ones a keeper and sunday dinner material all the way. i sprayed the outside with butter spray and the skin crisped up nicely and helped the seasoning stay on the bird.

This was a great recipe, thank you. I did add a few extra seasonings (celery salt & garlic) and more butter. The extra butter was not necessary afterall, there was a lot of fat/grease once I removed the chicken from the roasting pan. The drippings made for a lovely gravy. I added baby red potatoes (quartered), celery chunks, carrot chunks and onion to the roasting pan when I started cooking the chicken. The veggies got seasoned with the same as the bird. Everything was fabulous! Thank you for sharing this one, it's a keeper and the whole family raved about it.
