Whenever I'm invited to a potluck I'm asked to bring this salad, no matter what the season or occasion it's a huge hit and goes well with anything. Last night was my uncles 50th and I brought this salad I added sliced strawberries, it was all gone within 10 minutes of putting it out! If your making this for a crowd I would only double everything but the spinach because it makes a lot and you don't want to end up with a greasy salad.

I am not one to make the same thing again and again - with the exception of this salad! I have taken this salad to gatherings and always am asked for the recipe. So simple, so good! Thank you

Because this recipe had so many reviews...I just had to try it! I read as many of the 5-star reviews and suggestions as I could, and then quite a few of the ones where people said they didn't like it. It seemed to me that the main reason people didn't like it was because the dressing was too overpowering. I took a lot of the suggestions of other reviewers and altered the recipe only slightly, and it was -- as so many others have already said -- fantastic! I used a 1/4 c Spenda, dry roasted the almonds, used mixed greens in addition to spinach, did not use poppy seeds, used Craisins and a small can of Mandarin oranges, only used 1/4 c olive oil and sprinkled reduced-fat feta on top afterward. (I also added cucumbers cut into quarters because my boyfriend loves them.) I did not add the dressing directly to the salad but drizzled it on prior to eating just in case it was too much. It was extremely tasty and my boyfriend raved about it and said this should be something we make all of the time. This one is a keeper!

Very good, but I agree with others about the dressing. I would only use it as needed, also, instead of pouring the whole mixture into the salad. Also, obviously...this salad is best when eaten right away. We had some left over after dinner, and just two hours later after being in the fridge, the spinach was wilted and it just didn't taste the same. My husband enjoyed this salad more than I did, so I will make it again.

I like the idea of the salad. However, the dressing was too sweet, or too something. the dressing simply overpowered this salad. If you do make this salad, lightly drizzle on the dressing. You can always add more.

I've already made this recipe 4 times in the past two weeks! The dressing perfectly pulls this salad together. I either toast sliced almonds or pine nuts to put in and I've added crumbled gorgonzola cheese as well. The tiny amount (if any) that's been leftover gets soggy and wilted, but I shamelessly ate it up anyway- still delish! This was great because I made the dressing up the day before and let the flavors join overnight. The rest is super quick to throw together last minute.

I've been making this salad for years -- it was the first recipe I ever tried from this site. I often take it to potlucks and small group meetings, and people always go crazy for it! I make it according to the recipe; I think toasting the almonds in a bit of butter really ups the flavor. I do use Craisins, as other reviewers have suggested, and also sometimes throw in some blue or gorgonzola cheese, but otherwise, I stick to the recipe, and it always turns out great!

Made for dinner and it was a great hit. I didn't have white wine vinegar and used red; it was just fine. Will make this again and again!

this was really really good. I served it for the first time last thanksgiving and have made it a few times since. I took another op's suggestion and put blue cheese crumbles in it with pine nuts instead of almonds.....awesome! Be sure to mix it often if serving to a crowd because the cranberries all fall to the bottom. Thanks so much, this is a for sure keeper.

I love, love, love this recipe and have used it for years. I recommend cutting the sugar in half. I use it pretty much as is in the fall and winter. In the spring and summer I switch out the cranberries for fresh berries and mandarin oranges (I have also used fresh pineapple),switch out the almonds for pecans, and romaine and spring mix for the spinach (don't forget to keep the sesame seeds). It is fantastic! You can make the dressing and toast the nuts and seeds the day before.

If you would like to make this a 5 star recipe, then add 2-4 sliced green onions. It's a bit sweet without them. Overall, I really enjoyed this salad. I agree that it would be a great salad to bring to a potluck or for get-togethers. And very simple for "no hassle" dinners.
