This recipe was amazing! Everyone in my family loved it. I used diced tomatoes instead of tomato juice and I doubled the cumin because it's my favorite spice. In addition, I did add a couple of adobe peppers like another review suggested and this did give it a bit of a kick. I will add more kidney beans next time because I like my chili hearty. I gave this recipe a 5 because it is a great base recipe and it seems that you can't go wrong no matter how you adjust the recipe. Will make again soon.

Good hearty chili. I did use vegetable juice instead of tomato and cut it by about a cup and I did replace the canned beans with a 15oz bag of dried black beans because that is what I had on hand, this added to the cooking time but definitely still really good.

Made it on the stove top, the only changes I made was to used crushed tomatoes instead of tomato juice because I couldn't find tomato juice and I omitted the chili powder because I didn't have any on hand. My husband LOVED it and he is very hard to please. He is the type of person that is often disappointed with restaurant and take out meals. He gave it five stars and took some to work for lunch so I KNOW he loved it.

I used this recipe for the first time I ever made chili and I thought it turned out great. I cut the recipe in half thinking that it would be way to much, I wish had more!!

This Chili was really good, and very easy to make. Since this is the first time I've used this recipe I followed it to the T. I think that next time I make it I'll reduce the tomato juice just a bit because it was a tad on the runny side, but we enjoyed it nonetheless!

A great recipe for a beginner. I found many different recipes on this website and this one seamed the simiplest and easiest to make. Plus, I already had everything on hand. I, like other reviewers, did not use tomato juice. Rather, I removed the skin off of four tomatoes, diced them, covered them in water, and cooked until boiling. Then, I pureed them and add them in replace of the juice. A bit complicated, but it save me a trip to the store. Thanks for the recipe!

this was just "okay"; nothing special, but it tasted fine . . . I was just expecting "spectacular" from all of the reviewers.

This was great! I didn't add the tomato juice, I just used bottled salsa as someone else sugested, and diced tomatoes. My fiance loved this because he doesn't like spicy food, but I would add some red pepper next time. I also served it with tortilla chips, sour cream, and fresh avocado.

This was really good. I used one large can of crushed tomatoes and one small can of tomato sauce. I used one large can of chili beans and one small can of pinto beans. I followed the seasoning exactly except I added about 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder. It was very good while I was camping.

this makes the best chili. I generally add more beans because I like my chili quite thick. This is a spicy delicious chili that I have made many times. i keep it in the freezer and have somewhenver I like. TWhen it is gone I make up some more. Filling with a low calorie content.

I also used diced tomatoes instead of the tomato juice and didn't drain the kidney or pinto beans. Very good and hot enough for my husband and me. I have been looking for a good chili for a long time.

Pretty good chili. You definitely need to add your own heat as this wasn't hot or spicy at all. A good base chili.

This is a great simple crockpot recipe. I used 1 - 15 oz of tomato sauce and 1 - 15 oz can of diced tomatoes for chili. It was sure easy after broning the meat. It was even better the second night for our guests! KR - Hermiston, OR

Really easy to cook for a first time Chili maker. My boyfriend liked the corn bread more (traderjoes box) We both like spicy so i added red pepper flakes. I think next time i'll add garlic while browning the meat. But I can't complain to much, it is going to feed us for a couple days!
