Very good. Used kidney and pinto beans (both were dry, so I soaked them all day in water). B/c they hadn't been in cans, the beans were still pretty firm after cooking...which was a nice change of pace from regular chili, which tends to be mushy. Very hearty feel to the chili with these beans. Could use more spiciness next time, so I'll probably tweak the spices. The "10 servings" is way out of whack; served 4 bowls last night and I've got another 8-12 left over for freezing.

This chili is really perfect. Honestly I don't think chili can be too tomato-y. I used V-8 for the juice and even added a can of crushed spicy tomatoes.Yum. Best I've had.

This was a really good chili recipe. I cooked mine on the stove because I didn't want to wait all day! ;) I will definitely use this recipe again!

I have made this 2 times. The 1st time I followed the recipe exactly with alright results. The 2nd time I added 2 cans of rotel diced tomato's with green chili's and one can stewed tomato's. Also instead of using the seasonings, I purchased 2 packages of chili seasoning, (it's usually with the gravy mixes) and replaced the beans with a 30 oz. can of drained chili beans. This turned out to be a heartier chili and my family and friends really enjoyed it.

Loved it!! I wanted a hearty chili so based on other reviews I used diced tomatoes in place of the tomato juice. I also used two cans of kidney beans (omitting the pinto beans) and a jar of salsa for a special kick. Oh my goodness this chili was soooo good!

Wonderful recipe. The only changes made were replaced the tomato juice with diced tomatos and replaced the white sugar with brown sugar. Cooked the beef and onions and threw everything else in the slow cooker. Served with cheddar cheese and corn muffins Delicious!!!

A great chili recipe. Very hearty and thick. A few changes I made.... added a can of black beans along with the pinto and kidney beans. I also used 2 cans crushed tomatoes and less of the tomato juice. It made alot, and was a hit at my house.

This chili is fantastic! I have tried to make chili in the past and it always turns out so bland and boring. This recipe has a great ingredient list and is easy to make. I followed other users' suggestions and substituted diced tomatoes for the tomato juice for a thicker chili. I also used a red bell pepper instead of green. Made it in the crockpot and it turned out great! I will definitely make this again.

This is a great recipe that you can add ingredient to and it is still perfect. I always add mushrooms, additional bell peppers and fresh chopped tomatoes.

I followed other's advice and used 2 cans of diced tomatoes instead of the tomato juice. I also used 2 cans of kidney beans instead of pintos. I simmered stovetop for 2 hours, then let sit for the afternoon. Served with jalapeno cornbread and everyone loved it.

WOW - adding a few extra spices makes all the difference in an awesome chili. I didn't have tomato juice on hand, so I used a can of diced tomatoes. Also did not have a green pepper. Topped it with cheddar cheese and crushed white corn tortilla chips. Other than that, I followed George's directions and had the best chili I've ever made. Thanks!

I halved the recipe and changed the following: Added more juice, no sauce. I used 3 cans of kidney beans and forgot the green pepper (which was disappointing, I love green pepper). This was pretty tasty. We didn't add cheese or sour cream. Just ate with wheat crackers. This is almost exactly like Flatlander Chili by the same person.

I loved this chili! I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of substituting diced tomatoes for the tomato juice because I like thick chili. I thought the flavor was excellent, especially with shredded cheese on top! Nice one, George!
