Agree that this is way too runny and bland. Lori, chili is not supposed to be runny and watery, if it is then it is not chili. Con carne just means with meat.

Not bad. Only used 1# of meat (family not big meat eaters), added roughly 2 CUPS celery, and it was pretty good.

I'm rating it 5 stars because my child and BF both really liked it. The only changes I made were: No onions....I used onion powder instead. No green pepper because neither one of us really like it and I didn't have any. Other than that, I followed it to the T. It was good, but nothing OUTSTANDING, in my opinion. I most likely will make this again since they both seemed to really like it. I'm just saying...it was GOOD, but nothing that would really kick me in the arse and make me take notice.

This is a great basic, old fashioned recipe! I have made it similarly for years. I use 2 cans of kidney beans and don't use pinto beans. I use only a 15 oz. can of tomato sauce. In addition to the tomato juice I put in 2 large cans of diced tomatoes. What is chili without tomatoes? I use chili powder, onions, garlic, pepper, green peppers and bay leaves to flavor it. For those of you who whine about it being too runny, it's supposed to be this way, it's not a thick yucky con carne. I love crackers in mine!

I usually prefer real Texas chili, made with cubed steak instead of ground beef, and no beans. However when cooking for others I generally make this type. There are some very good ones out there. Unfortunately this is not one of them. It is way too watery, tomato-y and bland. And you should NEVER put regular bell pepper in chili.

I add tomatoes with green chili peppers, some diced bell pepper, 1 dried cayenne pepper and several garlic cloves. Top it off with shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese. Sometimes I add thin spaghetti.

I have been making this recipe for months. I add a few things some spices mainly, but this is a very solid chili recipe. As for everyone else liking it that has always been on the very positive side of things as well.

We really liked this chili recipe and like many other reviewers subbed different types of tomato mixes for the juice. I can't get juice here and I've never made my own. So, I used a can of stewed tomatoes that also has puree and a bottle of almost puree tomatoes. The spices were perfect for us and I will make again.

I made this today for dinner and it was really good. The only thing is it tasted a lot like tomato soup, so next time I will use diced tomatoes in their own juice instead of the juice. Next time I will also cook it in the slow cooker, I think it will be better that way.

I have made this a few times, it is easy to make and customizable. I usually follow it completely and the results are excellent. I have even won a chili cook off at work with this (about 10 other entries) for that one I added a regular sized can of corn for added color and texture, GOOD STUFF!!!

I used low sodium tomato sauce and juice since it tasted a little salty to me the first time. I also added an extra can of kidney beans to make mine more chunky. Fantastic!

This turned out exceedingly well - I didn't get the big tomato juice, but went with smaller cans and complimented that with diced tomatoes and green chiles. This is a great slow-cook chili receipe that you can make in the morning and forget until dinner time. Will definitely make again!
