This chili is the siiiizzzznit!!! And extremely simple also. I use a whole green pepper instead. I have made this chili for about 4 weeks straight now since I have found it.

This is a great chili recipe, but definitely has a kick to it, and I left out the cayenne pepper! Also, is 1/4 CUP of chili powder correct? That seemed like a LOT of chili powder to me. I used 1/2 tsp and it was plenty. I also omitted the tomato juice and used 3 cans of tomato sauce and 2 cans of Rotel. I thought it was too "meaty" with 2 lbs of ground beef, so I used 1.2 lbs and that was perfect. Very tasty! Served with shredded cheddar and sour cream, and of course cornbread. YUM!

Yummy! Very good chili. I halved the recipe, because I had a only a few people to feed. I also used crushed tomatoes. Very good.

ive got a reasonable tolerance to spicy food but this chili was way too much.. i cant even eat it the flavor (what i can taste over the hot) is good enough.. i even added extra beans and tomato sauce to it to tone it down, cheese and sour cream on top of the serving and its still too hot... ill keep looking for that ideal chili recipe though im almost scared to try any more now after this because no one even thought to mention how spicy it might be to some people.

Awesome! This was great. I used 4 cans of 8 oz. tomato sauce because I did not have a 29 oz. can. Next time I would cut that down to 3. I slow cooked it for several hours and uncovered it the last hour to help thicken it up. Fantastic!

I rated this a 5 because I think the mixture of seasonings is great. I halved my recipe, and like many others, had to use a can of chili style stewed tomatoes and water. I used half a can of kidney beans and another half a can of pinto chili style beans. The seasoning mixture was perfect. I'm not rating the thickness as I didn't measure exactly for the water amount. But when I make chili by taste, I can never get the taste just right and this was the best I've ever made! It was slightly spicy (oh yeah, had to leave out the cayenne as I have 2 small children) but my girls still ate it. Way to go, George!!

We love this chili recipe. Just enough spice, but not too much to overwhelm the flavor. Everytime we make it for someone new, they end up taking the recipe home!

I've made this recipe for many people now and always get RAVE reviews. I've altered it a bit to fit our tastes though. I use substitute black beans for one of the others (depends on my mood). Here's my big secret. Instead of using all beef, I use hot italian sausage links for half the meat. Cook the links ahead of time until they are black (the char gives the chili a little added flavor). Ideally, cook them on a grill. I let them cool, then cut the links into little pieces. It's more work, but it definitely adds so much to the flavor.

Very good! I cut the recipe in half since I don't need 10 servings of chili, so I used 1 lb. ground beef, 1 small onion, 1/2 green pepper, 1 jalepeno seeded and chopped, canned diced tomatoes instead of the juice and two full cans of beans. I like my chili bean-y! I also increased the cayenne and chili powder since I like mine with a little kick. Threw everything into my slow cooker on High for 4 hours. Also added 1/2 bottle dark beer..I'm always looking for an excuse to cook with beer and this chili loved the beer..it meshed well with the cumin and heartiness of the beans. Served it with "Honey Cornbread" from this site and plenty of cheese on top. Yum!

Very good chili recipe. Followed suggestions and substituted couple cans of diced tomatoes in place of 1/2 the tomato juice. Great basic starter recipe, going to have fun playing with diffrent ways to perfect it to our tastes!!!

I love chili, have tried lots of recipes. This one is really good. Made some changes. Like many others, I like my chili hearty and thick, so I substituted diced tomato cans, and fresh tomatoes for the tomato juice...it worked a trick. I also fried up the onions in advance in a little olive oil, then added the meat, rather than just adding raw onions. Nice, easy, makes loads for a busy family...leftover for lunches, great served over basmati rice.

I didn't care for this although my husband (who isn't picky AT ALL) did. To me it tasted too "tomato juice-y". Wasn't as thick as I would've liked either. I'll keep looking, thanks anyway!

I'm giving this 5 stars. It is a really great chili that adapts easily to suit individual tastes. Want more spice? Add it! Feeding a family with kuds? Leave it as-is. Easy Peasy! I always make this in the crock pot and it never fails to be a huge hit. On a personal note - I do not use the tomato juice; instead, I use stewed tomatoes. It makes the chili very hearty.
