Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs Recipe Reviews - Allrecipes.com (Pg. 3)
Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
My husband loves meatballs with his spaghetti and I'm still looking for a good recipe. I did bake my meatballs and they were good (texture and flavor). The sauce was more garlic than we care for and we both like garlic. I thought the sauce was thick enough without the tomato paste (probably because all I had was crushed tomatoes)so I didn't put that in. I also forgot to add the basil, but didn't miss it. I made it in the crockpot which was very easy and it wasn't necessary to fuss over the cooking part.

My 4 year old daughter really wanted spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I had never made them. This recipe was really easy and she loved them!

I followed the recipe as directed, and I really enjoyed the meatballs. I did find the sauce to be bland, so next time I will add more seasoning.

I did not think this was a good recipe. Mostly just tasted like canned tomatoes, very sharp and acidic, and it was way too garlicky and salty. There didn't seem to be any "depth" to the sauce even after the long simmering time. Also found it to be thin and soupy. The meatballs were okay but I knew they would need salt so I did add some, otherwise they would be pretty tasteless. I did however like the idea of cooking them in the sauce. Oh well - can't win 'em all.

I use half beef, half ground pork, otherwise I follow the recipe. This is the best homemade sauce/meatball I've ever had, and that's from a guy who has been lucky enough to come from a family who makes just about everything from scratch. I'm not talking better than Ragu and the frozen meatballs at the supermarket, I'm talking better than grandma's. Thanks for the recipe Jeremy!

Despite all these great reviews, I personally didn't like this dish much.. First, it was a little too sweet. So I added some white wine but then turned (to me) a little too tingy... My husband and daughter loved it though...

Totally off the hook! Just made it for the family and it smells amazing through the house. Only thing I will do different is maybe add a little less breadcrumbs. I use a less fat ground beef and it soaked up the egg pretty quick. I added some milk to help it out. Baked the meatballs and added them to the sauce. Sort of hoping there are a few meatballs left for a meatball sub! :)

This rating is just for the sauce so far. I haven't tried the meatballs yet. I needed a sauce because some of my family was coming for dinner and I tried this. Everyone loved it. I will try the meatballs some time though.
