2nd time making this recipe. Used a little less oil for onions and garlic, crushed canned tomatoes (instead of whole), a can of diced tomatoes, italian seasoned bread crumbs(instead of fresh plain), and 2 eggs (instead of 1). Entire family raved!

second time with this one..very good...used 1.2 lbs 85% ground beef, 3/4 cup bread crumbs...fresh parsley...12 meatballs came out very moist..browned them for 15 minutes at 350, prior to adding to sauce...sauce will taste a little salty until adding the paste, basil and balls...used 42 oz. canned peeled whole tomatoes (plum ), and 14 oz. diced...excellent sauce....also added a small green pepper diced... nice recipe and simple to make....

I made the meatballs portion of this recipe, and they turned out great with bottled sauce. My husband is a very picky eater, but he enjoyed these meatballs.

Awesome sauce and awesome meatballs. There's nothing like a good homemade sauce. If you have extras the sauce freezes well.

OMG! ! This recipe is one of the BEST that I have ever tried! Great Italian flavors, and the meatballs, WOW!, moist and flavorful. I actually tweeked the recipe from review I read from March of 2007, and by adding a little more parmesean cheese in the meatballs, and garlic powder, to the sauce, in addition to the minced garlic, this recipe is awesome! ! I will definitely make this recipe again and again! !

Meatballs were so moist. I was afraid that they weren't going to cook all the way through. Don't be. They're perfect.

First, Great recipe Jeremy and thank you for sharing :) I utilized this recipe for the meatballs only as I have my own traditional sauce. Anyway, I read all the reviews,,those that want more flavor, use 1/2 Italian Sausage instead of all hamburger, those that want it more moist, throw in some spaghetti sauce from your meal before you make the meatballs. And yes I did brown the meatballs just so they held their shape. For the most part the meatballs were still raw when I put them in the sauce. Excellent meatballs and I will make them again and again because my husband prefers meatballs with spaghetti along with my neighbor who is an older full Italian treasure. She is who gave these the thumbs up! Thanks again Jeremy!!

I'm spoiled having grown up in a household where Grandma spent an entire two days making a vat of homemade spaghetti sauce. This recipe is OK for a quick fix - but nothing beats slow cooked Italian perfection when there is ample time (but who has ample time these days?). Was pleased with the flavor considering the short cooking time - which us busy moms LOVE. Can't make meatballs though without the classic combo of the three meats - ground beef (at least 85% fat), ground pork and ground veal. Makes SUCH a huge difference in the texture, taste and consistency of the meatballs. I also increased the amount of parm cheese (used fresh grated)along with some home grown basil. Thanks for the quick dinner fix! Was really ready in 1/2 hour...

Thought this was very good. We used ground turkey. I like my meatballs to be cooked through so this made 36 meatballs versus 12 and also we browned the meatballs in a cast iron skillet on the stove. After they were done we added to a jar of spaghetti sauce. Voila!

I don't know went wrong, but the meatballs fell apart into the sauce...so it was like having ground beef in a tomato sauce. I think next time I'll stick with my usual method of browning the meatballs before adding them to the sauce. :0( What a waste!

This sauce was ok. It lacked flavor, and needs much more kick. I would add the following next time: garlic salt, more herbs, crushed red pepper. The amt. of onion was good. The meat balls were very moist, filling and good. They cooked well in the sauce. In the future I will probably use bought sauce to save on time, and these meatballs.

Great homemade recipe. Used more garlic and onion than called for. If you don't want possible tomato chunks, you may wanna use diced or crushed tomatos. Used more tomato paste cause I don't like my sauces thin or runny. Meatballs were excellent. Used Italian bread crumbs. Also seasoned to taste while sauce was cooking.

I only made the meatballs and used jarred sauce because I was short on time. I thought they were great, and loved that they cooked in the sauce instead of in the oven or skillet--I've never had good luck with those, but these did great. The only problem was that they burned to the bottom of the saucepan just a bit, even though I had the burner on low. I would recommend stirring to prevent this.
