I made this for the first time and it turned out great. Followed others advise and used 2 hot and 3 sweet sausages. No salt needed, it's salty enough.

Awesome! Use whatever beans you have on hand & get a good loaf of bread!

This soup is wonderful and easy. I had some Italian Sausage so I went browsing for a new recipe. I am a obsessive soup fan so I thought this would be the perfect recipe for an October night. I didn't have any of the other ingredients but after a fast stop at the market I had everything for under 10. We read over the other reviews and agreed that it could be changed for your own personal preference, but we thought for the 1st time making it we would just follow the recipe as is.It was so good, full of fresh vegetables. I wish I was still eating it. The flavor is perfect and I did add some red pepper flakes because I like a spicy soup but Hot Italian Sausage doesn't sit well in my stomach. I don't think I will change anything next time except maybe use turkey Italian Sausage to cut down on the fat. This soup is so yummy with fresh extra sourdough and a good red Italian wine. We had Chianti. I think I will be adding it to my list of favorites and many of them are soups! Thank you.

This soup is awesome! I won second place at my church's soup cook off with this recipe. I will drain the sausage next time as it was a bit greasy for me...but...yummy none the less!!!

I followed this recipe to the letter and it was so good and easy. Just like any soup should be. The marriage of tastes between the spinach, hot italian sausage and the Great Northern Beans is what makes this soup so different and one that will be on my monthly cook list.

I made a few alterations based on my family's tastes and the limitations of my pantry. I needed some extra liquid because I live at a high altitude, so I chose chicken broth. I also added chopped celery, and I didn't have beans on hand so I used diced potatoes instead. Unfortunately, I had to use frozen zucchini and spinach because I didn't have access to any fresh stuff that was in nice condition. Overall, the soup turned out a bit bland, but that might have just been the fault of the added liquid, so I added some dried basil and oregano to perk it up a bit. It turned out pretty good. A nice basic soup, easy to make and easy to modify.

I was so excited to try this soup. We are HUGE soup eaters but I was really disappointed with this recipe. The flavoring came mainly from the saugage which was disappointing. I think their are better soups out there.

Excellent soup as is, although my family did not care for it as much as I did. I will add barley to it next time to make it even heartier.

This was good! It did need more liquid though, so I added a can of vegetable broth which actually made it taste even better. Thanks for the recipe!

I felt like this lacked flavor but it was a good base recipe that I could add spices to. I added chopped broccoli instead of chopped spinach on accident. Oops.

This was an excellent Soup! Especially on those cold, dreary winter nights. As per others recommendations I added tortellini, extra garlic & oregano, ++ extra broth and hot italian sausage. I will definately make this one again!

Everyone agreed -- this is an excellent soup! Per other reviews, I added pasta, extra broth, extra garlic, and some basil/oregano. I also used hot Italian sausage, since that's what we prefer. Thank you for the great recipe!!

This soup is the best! I have made it so many times and everyone raves about it. I usually add some orzo pasta as it makes it a little heartier for my husband but it certainly doesn't need a thing. So good and easy!
