this soup is great. we made a few changes: used celery instead of zucchini, used chicken sausage, added spinach, used veggie broth, and increased amount of tomato sauce. We also added some red pepper and thyme. Hearty winter soup.

Delicious. Definitely no additional salt needed. I put some parmesan on top and served it with warm rosemary foccacia. I will make this again for sure.

Excellent soup! Great change from the norm. My family loves soup and I make a different soup one to two times a week during the winter. I have made this soup and froze the left overs in single serve containers, It freezes well. I have also substituted spinach for the zuchini and it is equally good. My boys even eat it and they are not vegetable eaters.

I made this for my husband who loves soups. I ommitted the carrots due his lack of liking them. His initial comments were that it was pretty salty and could use more basil. He did say that it was better the second and third day. Still, he didn't rave like he usually does about other soups that I have made. I probably won't make this again.

This was so good! Made enough for two dinners (for two) and one lunch. I used chicken sausage links - one hot Italian and two mild. Will definitely make this again.

Very, very tasty. Making this was a big deal, in that the central smoke alarm at my apartment is very sensitive. Suffice it to say an engine company showed up after I browned the Italian sausage. The firefighters didn't taste it but did opine that it smelled delicious. The emergency response was not the fault of this recipe- just my smoke detectors. But I just had to share that. Anyway, very nice. Made a double batch for frozen leftovers. Served with some crusty bread. Delicious.

Followed the recipe but added extra broth which had to be chicken because that's what I had in the freezer. Salty and more of an adult flavor than for kids. Good winter food!

Well...this is a very resilient recipe. I used 2 cups of chicken broth, 1 cup of vegetable broth, and 2 cubes of beef bouillone dissolved in 2 cups hot water (I refused to go to the grocery store). Then, I didn't have Tomato Sauce, so I used the fresh tomatoes plus added 1/2 can of petite diced partially drained. I had some left over artichoke hearts and fresh mushrooms. I didn't have Italian sausage, but I had Conecuh Hot Sausage...I left the casings on (too hard with this type to remove)...sauteed them in bite size pieces....drained them and threw them in the slowcooker, then sauteed the onions garlic and mushrooms and threw them in...then added all the rest that I had plus my extra stuff on low for about 7 hours. I added BowTie pasta cooked al dente' about an hour before serving...and my daughter, hubby, and myself were raving! Great recipe..very versitile.

As I'm writing this, I have a pot of this soup simmering on the stove. My second one in 2 days. My family just loved this Sausage Soup and as soon as they finished the 1st pot I made they requested,no wait, begged me to make a 2nd. They had it for dinner, the lunch the next day and wanted it again for dinner tonight. This is a great low cost and very filling soup, and it tasted GREAT! I added everything it called for. The only change I made is that I used Hot Italian Turkey sausage because we like lots of flavor.I added 2 packages of Tortellini because my son asked me to put in "lots of tortellini please". We all enjoyed this wonderful, flavorful soup and I can tell it will be a favorite in our house. Oh, and the best part is after you open a bottle of red wine to add to the soup, you get to drink the rest! :-) Thanks for sharing!

Tasty soup. I made the soup in the slow cooker after browning the sausage, cooked tortellini separately and added just before serving. It was a little greasy, though, since I forgot to skim the fat after cooking (though I did drain the sausage on a paper towel before adding it to the other ingredients).

My husband and I loved this, so when my mom needed a main dish for a church dinner for 18 adults, I made her a batch. She loved it, and so did the church group. It was "just different enough" to still be a crowd-pleaser. The only changes I made were for convenience. I used a can of peeled/diced tomatoes, substituted jar spaghetti sauce for a can since I had it on hand, and used bulk Italian sausage instead of removing the casings. Still tasted great!

This soup was delicious! It was a big hit with the entire family. I think it was better the second day! The only thing I did differently was add some mushrooms to the pot! This recipe is definitely a keeper.

This was amazing! I took one reviewer's advice and didn't take the easy way out by using canned tomatoes. The tomato flavor would have been too overpowering. I did everything as written, except that I used hot Italian sausage instead of sweet. I normally don't like to tweak a recipe before reviewing it, but I think it would have been just as great with sweet sausage to those who love it. I will make this again and again!

Yummy! All 4 of my kids enjoyed it. Good, hearty soul food. I think I'll try to lighten the calories though with Turkey Sausage next time. It did need more water than called for.
