I loved this recipe, but whenever I make SPO's I use XXX spicy rated Italian sausage from my butcher shop, other than that I really like the spice mixture in this recipe.

Excellent recipe. I used red wine instead of white and added some diced tomatoes. Served on penne pasta.

Excellent recipe! I used beer instead also, made lots of sauce. Next time I would cut the peppers and onions a little bigger as they kinda melted in to the sauce, but many loved it this way because they like the flavor instead of the texture of peppers and onions. Made for 30 people, the flipped over it. Next day reheated and pured sausage and mixture over white rice, loved, loved loved it!

Yum! Very good. Sliced sausage before browning & used olive oil instead of butter. Can serve so many different ways- on a roll, over pasta, with potatoes or rice, the possibilities are endless. Thanks.

This recipe was fantastic! I used chicken basil sausage (from Sprout's) and substituted olive oil for half the butter, but everything else was the same. My husband and I both loved it. It was very easy and I'll definitely be making this again.

This was really good. Like another reviewer suggested I used beer instead of white wine. I also only used 1 yellow onion and there was more than enough. This definitely is not enough for 6 people, 1 sausage link per person is not enough! If you're cooking for 6 I would double the recipe.

Everyone loved this dish. Going to make it for Fathers Day. Only change I made was to use chicken broth instead of wine and olive oil in place of the butter.

This is a great recipe. It is a part of my regular rotation. Red or white wine works with this. Delicious!

Really good! I made this with turkey sausage, red and yellow peppers, and a little extra onion. Bagged and put in freezer for reuse - is great with prepared tomato sauce over pasta or just on a sub roll.

Great basic recipe. I fiddled with the ingredients a little (spiced it up) and it still came out yummy. I used chicken broth instead of the white wine and, although I found it a little greasy, my fiance wants to have it again soon. Thanks for posting it!

This was such an easy meal. I browned 3 links of Hot Italian sausage and 3 links of Sweet Italian sausage in a pan with some olive oil then removed and sliced them into pieces. I added 3 cloves of fresh minced garlic and one Vidalia onion to the pan and sautéed them. I added the peppers to the pan and about a half a bottle of Sam Adams White Ale to the mix. I added the sausage and 3 torn leaves of fresh basil to the pan and let that simmer for 15 minutes until it all reduced. I was really nervous when I added the onions and garlic since the aroma was so potent that I had to open all the windows to let in some fresh air. After I added the peppers, beer and sausage and covered it, the smell dissipated and turned the dish into a wonderfully sweet yet spicy dish. I served it on torpedo rolls with American cheese (all I had) and French fries on the side. This will be added into my regular rotation. Thanks GiGi9801!!!!

This was excellent. I browned the sausage a little bit more after sliced. I also used whiskey (Crown Royal) instead of wine since I was out, maybe not a whole 1/4 cup, but it was still really good. Didn't taste like whiskey. Great dish!

Terrific recipe! I changed just a couple of things. I used beer instead of wine and olive oil instead of butter as previous poster had done. I also used a mixture of hot (not sweet) pork and turkey sausage. Came out great! I also drizzled a little extra olive oil on towards the end to thicken the sauce more. The family loved it so much I'm making more tonight!

This wasn't as tasty as I hoped it would be (perhaps I should have used spicy sausage). I sprinkled some balsamic vinegar on while eating, and that gave it a bit more flavor.
