I always seem to substitute recipes with whatever I have on hand. No difference here - omitted the spinach, added a can of white beans & dried mushrooms, 2 cans stewed tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste & chicken stock as I was out of tomato sauce. I did have the bowtie pasta! Since it had no green, the kiddos loved it. I heeded the previous posters and added the stock plus more seasoning. Love the slow cooker!

I changed this recipe substantially, so it's hard to really give it a rating. However, the way that I made it was really delicious. Used italian sausage instead of ground beef (the one I used was one mixed with wine, cheese, and garlic), doubled the tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes (and used crushed tomatoes), added in half a bottle of roasted garlic spaghetti sauce, used fontina cheese instead of mozzarella, and a mix of bell peppers instead of spinach (and put the peppers in from the beginning). I let this cook on low for about 20 minutes after adding in very al dente pasta and it was REALLY good. Made enough for 8 people since the 4 of us only ate half!

Added more stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce to the recipe. Bought those with Italian spices and then added the spices the recipe called for. Used a pound of bison meat that gave the recipe a different flavor. Hubby liked it so much he had a second plate.

The flavor was good, but was a bit dry. Next time I will add more tomato sauce. Was actually really good warmed up as left-overs too.

It was good. Even my boys (ages 6, 4 and 2) ate it and they are SUPER picky. I followed the suggestions and added more sauce and cayanne pepper. It's a lot like lasagna...but the bowtie noodles gives it something different.

I made sure to reviw the "reviews" and doubled up on the sauce (tomatoe sauce, stewed tomatoes and onions) and added extra seasoning... added cayanne pepper (heavy dose) 6 oz mushrooms, 16 oz can or corn, 1 lb beef instead of 1 1/2 lb and shredded 16 oz block of mozzerella. Ended up really thick and sauceless still and could barely tell there was cheese in it but was still totally grubbbbbbbbb and no complaints. fyi.. put bow tie noodles in sauce RIGHT before they are done so they can soak up sauce :-)

I added more tomato sauce and cheese. And left out a little ground beef. My family love it and I would even make this for sunday dinner. Wendy

I was a bit dissapointed in this recipe. From reading the ingrediants it sounded so good, but after I made it, it tasted bland. I felt like it needed more sauce, and definitely more seasoning. It has potential, but it's not quite right the way it's written.

This was ok, but somewhat bland. I might try this again, but could use some suggestions on how to add some flavor.
