Yum!! Absolutely wonderful bread! My kids and three of their friends practically demolished the first loaf before it had a chance to cool enough to cut well! Will definately make this again!

Tastes great when warm right out of the oven (and with raisins.) Easy, easy recipe! Thanks!

I was extremely interested in trying this bread because of the lack of yeast which isn't something I have exactly perfected yet and I am so glad that I did! I have tried another Irish Soda Bread recipe and I ended up w/ a hockey puck but this one came out perfectly. This bread is so delicious warm with butter and jam or toasted to go along with soups or stews. I did change a few things based on my own preferences though. I used all whole wheat flour and canola oil instead of butter to cut down on the saturated fat but other than that everything else remained the same. I would highly recommend this bread to anyone because it is fantastic.

I live in the middle east and good, moist bread is impossible to find. This fits the bill perfectly and we like it so much I make it stateside too!

This bread definitely has more of a cake-like consistency, which is deceiving when you taste it since it's not sweet. I wasn't sure what to expect considering the whole time I was in Ireland we were never served bread like this. Overall it's okay and might be something I'd make for my husband and me at home, but I wouldn't serve it to others, as you'd probably have to be familiar with this bread to enjoy it.

Unlike other soda breads, this is moist, not too dry. It's so easy to make, so I make it all the time!

This is our favorite Soda Bread. The only tip I can offer is that chemically leavened breads should sit out at room temp for 30 minutes or so in the loaf pan following the mixing to allow the soda and powder to do their jobs. This will create an airier loaf - this holds true for pancakes, biscuits, etc...

I originally made this recipe for my daughter's 3d grade International Food Day. I have since made this recipe dozens of times. It tastes the absolute best on the 2nd day! Now when I make it I don't even cut it the 1st day, just wrap up and leave overnight! I serve it with a cup of fresh brewed black tea. Our favorite topper is lemon curd.

WOW!!! This is a great and easy soda bread. The only change I made was I used dark brown sugar in place of the white. We ate it right out of the oven still hot. It smelled so good that we just couldn't wait. It has that nice dense texture of soda bread but with fluffyness to it. A snap to make. I will def. be making this again and again. I love soda bread and have been looking for that right recipe. I know this is not exactly traditional but who cares when it's this good. The ingredients are very traditional but it has more liquid then usual making it a batter like bread which is an idea i love. Next time i might add rasins and caraway seeds for a real authentic taste. My husband is European and we only use European butter wich is much tastier then American butter. Try to find it in your supermarket...it's worth the price. This is what really makes it taste just right.

The bread comes out too moist. This soda recipe tastes more like a cake - moist and little too spongy. It doesn't toast up well the next day since it's a bit too wet, but unlike other recipes, this one probably taste best out of the oven. But if you're looking to keep one on hand for a few days to make toast, this is definitely not the one. I made the recipe as is and added 1 cup of raisins. I prefer the Irish Soda Bread I from this site instead - which is outstanding.

I have a wee bit of the Irish in me, so I enjoy serving this on St. Patty's Day for a family tradition. I love it with currents (or raisins), but some people I've served it to prefer it plain. Personally, I think the sugar amount is just right. Yet, everyone has varying sweet tooth levels.

I didn't have buttermilk, so I substituted two cups of milk plus two tablespoons cider vinegar. I also added a little brown sugar, 2/3 cup of raisins and 1/3 cup chopped chocolate. It came out awesome (though obviously more like a dessert bread than traditional soda bread). I'll definitely be making this one again.

Super easy! Other then using margarine, I didn't change a thing. I used a 9x5 inch loaf pan and covered it with foil after 45 minutes because it was getting brown. I baked for a total of 65 minutes and it smells wonderful!

Every year I cook a special St. Patrick's Day meal for my family. This will definitely be a keeper for years to come. It was very easy to prepare and my boys loved it. They asked if they had to wait until next year for me to make it again!

I made it without the raisins. This was more like cake and less like bread. It was very tasty though, and moist, and easy.
