this is a really delicious, moist bread - but not quite how I envision irish soda bread. still, definitely worth the bake! I think dried cranberries or another fruit sweeter than raisins does it best justice.

This was great! Definitely not your typical irish soda bread. It had the right flavor but a much moister texture. It was delicious alone and spread with butter with dinner. I used 2 mini packages of raisins and sprinkled them on the top before I baked it since I knew some people do not like raisins in their bread. It was a hit. Oh, and I doubled the sugar :)

Absolutely delicious! I really want to give this recipe a 5, but like another reviewer said, it's missing one key ingredient: raisins. I'm not a huge fan or raisins, but I'm so glad I added them (a little less than 1 c., next time, I'll add a heaping cup full). Not Irish Soda bread whatsoever, but really really good.. think banana or pumpkin bread texture. Thanks so much and I will be making this again and again!

The bread got rave reviews at St. Patrick's Day dinner. It was done at about 50 minutes, so make sure you check early.

It's ok, but nothing special. I added 1 cup dark raisins to the batter as some of the reviews stated. It looks beautiful, but lacking flavor. It's kind of like a loaf of biscuit-raisin bread. Maybe adding some cinnamon would give it more flavor. Sorry, but I won't make it again.

Easy to make, good flavor. I added raisins, too. I had a better recipe that someone gave me but couldn't locate it. This one was very good but not great.

This was a very easy and delicious recipe. I used the irish soda bread in the Irish Breakfast recipe. I also used 2 teaspoons of caraway seeds and a 1 cup of raisins suggested by other reviews for the bread. The raisins and caraway seeds really go good together with a unique taste I haven't had before.

This was my first attempt at making Soda Bread and it turned out wonderful. I know the recipe says to let it cool overnight before eating it, but it smelled so good in the oven as it was baking that I couldn't resist. I was not disappointed. I followed the recipe exactly and unlike other reviewers, I thought it was perfect without raisins.

Very easy and moist. We added some green sprinkles with the sugar and turned the bread green. The kids loved it.

Two very important items that are traditionally in Irish Soda Bread are missing and VERY important. Raisens and Carraway seeds. Add 1 cup raisens, and 2 teaspoons carraway seeds and this will turn into a great recipe! Another option is to cook the bread in a caste iron skillet.

Very good. Served with "Guinness Corned Beef," "Fabulous Fried Cabbage" (both from this site), and some roasted root veggies. I made the bread the night before and let it sit overnight (wrapped in foil). I did have trouble with it spilling out of the loaf pan as it started to cook, so I quickly put a cookie sheet on the rack below to catch any more spills. The top wasn't neat looking, but I served it sliced on a plate and nobody knew the difference! Thanks!

I have made soda bread but none tastes like this. I added a cup of raisens also. I like other reviewers suggestions about using the caraway seeds and currants also. It is very much a cake like bread; almost like Challah in flavor and texture. Since Easter is coming I may just make it again next weekend. I live alone and bring baked goods into work and everyone loves this bread; no one has complained yet. Corned Beef and Irish Soda Bread are not made in Ireland from what I understand. The Irish Soda Breads I am used to eating are biscuit hard and dried out. I never cared much for them. Thanks for a great recipe!

This doesn't resemble Irish Soda bread as I know it.The overall taste is good, especially warm out of the oven, but once it cooled down, we didn't care for it.

This was part of my St. Patrick's Day themed meal last night. I'd never had Irish Soda Bread before, so I didn't know what to expect. It was good, but it's just bread. I didn't think it was sweet like people said in other reviews. Adding the raisins would give it a unique taste.

My family and I really liked this. Half the bread was eaten before it cooled completely. Nice moist bread, not overly sweet, with a pleasant texture. I made a double recipe and added 1 cup of raisins to one loaf; mixed in with the dry ingredients prior to adding the buttermilk. The raisins added a touch more sweetness and we all agreed we like the loaf with the raisins best. I wouldn’t really call this Irish Soda Bread. It’s not at all like the typical hard, hockey puck type Irish Soda Bread I’ve had in the past. I will definitely make this again, with the addition of the raisins.
