I first made this a few years back for St. Pat's day, and we loved it so much I now make it on a regular basis. It has a slightly sweet taste to it and will make in instead of a sweet cornbread to go with chili or bbq for a change of pace. Also great for breakfast! I always follow the recipe to the T the first time around, and this is one that I still follow to the T. No need to change a thing.

Made this exactly as written and it was great. Very easy to mix up and bake in the loaf pan. Wonderful texture and moist. The butter and buttermilk made it very rich and it was not too sweet. I keep going back for another slice!

Love it. Very easy and delicious. My son had to make food representing another country for a school project. He picked this recipe and made it. It was a hit. Everyone loved it and now we make it every year on Saint Patrick's Day.

Very good, nice and moist! I tried this and Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread (another recipe on this site) at the same time. Personally I prefer it to this recipe, (it has more of a bread texture and this recipe is a bit sweeter and more cakey) but some of my family liked this recipe better, both are delicious! I used whole wheat, and it was wonderful! I did add rasins. Yummy!

Really easy and really good recipe! I made 4 loaves and after they sat out most of the day I put 3 in the freezer for later use. Great recipe!

I don't know what irish soda bread is supposed to be like, but this recipe was really easy and delicious. I decreased the amount of sugar a lot, because I wanted it more savory. I also baked it as a big round on a parchmint paper lined cookie sheet. Delicious, just a bit crumbly.

I made this as directed, without the raisins. The store didn't have buttermilk so I just used regular milk with vinegar in it. It is FABULOUS. I have always found Irish Soda Bread bland and boring but this one isn't at all. It has a great moist texture too.

Fab recipe. First time I have ever made it. We don't get buttermilk in the UK so readily so I used white vinegar in semi-skimmed milk to make it sour. Very very nice!!

This was o.k. Definitely better the next day. I tasted it fresh out of the oven and it had a very eggie taste to it. The next day that flavor all but disappeared. However, this is made very similarly to beer bread and I would rather eat the beer bread.

OK, so this isn't the authentic Irish Soda recipe, but it is very delicious made with raisins, and the Irish lasses at work loved it as much as the rest of us. This is the one I will keep!

This is the easiest, most delicious bread that can be made. There may be better breads out there in the world but definetly not this low maintenance. Just make sure to wrap in foil while it cools, otherwise, it won't be a moist and delicious as it should be.

This was a very nice and easy-to-make bread. I did guess on the raisins and added about 1/2 cup, but next time would add a bit more. Took the advice - wrapped it well and put it aside till the next morning....great warmed with butter and served with coffee!
