I make Irish soda bread every year for St. Patty's and this year I couldn't find my recipe so I used this one. Very good, though I did make some changes that I did remember from my recipe. I added two tbsps of caraway seeds, and used half golden and half regular raisins. De-lish!

Made this tonight and it's already gone! This turned out great. I did make a couple of changes: doubled the sugar(and used brown because I couldn't find the white sugar), and used evaporated milk/vinegar since I didn't have buttermilk OR regular milk. Everyone liked this more than the dinner!

I made this tonight for, yup, St. Patrick's Day dinner. I've never made Irish Soda Bread before. Heck, I've never even tried it (sad to admit with a last name like Monahan). This recipe was SO easy. And, better yet, delicious! I usually don't like crusty breads, but I was chomping down the crust on this with some tasty Dubliner cheese and ended up skipping out on the corned beef & cabbage entirely, due to a full and satisfied stomach. I omitted raisins and used the old milk + vinegar = buttermilk trick. I can't imagine it being better.

I have lost my Soda Bread recipe given to me by my Irish second mother BUT I think this one is it! When I made it, it was just much like her recipe. I have never made Soda bread in a pan. And this recipe spread very much. I would say this is the closest to my long lost recipe!

Really good! Other Soda Breads I've made tend to sit in your stomach like a rock, but this one wasn't like that at all. Made one batch w/ raisins and 1 w/out. Liked the raisin batch better.

This was good and easy to prepare. I liked the crunchy crust and the soft inside. I left out the raisins. Served with honey.

This bread turned out tasting like flour. The outside looked great and even the inside looked yummy, but the taste was not good. Not enough sugar - I would add 1/2 a cup next time instead of a tablespoon. I would not make this recipe as it next time.

Love this bread--I could eat the whole loaf by myself. Very appealing and tasty--slightly crunchy outside and deliciously dense crust; crumb's texture is moist and slighty sweet. I added fresh rosemary and minced dried onions. Excellent recipe to go sweeter or savory. Baked it in cast iron skillet for 50 mins until the internal temp was 195*-200* to yield a perfectly baked center--very addicting! Thanks, Ms. Fritz!
