Great recipe! Never made German potato salad before but was making it for a friend who was born in Munich and to serve at an Oktoberfest. He said it was like he remembered as a child growing up in Germany. The only thing I changed was I used med. sized red potatoes that weren't peeled. Not peeling them saved me a lot of time, especially since I changed the recipe to serve 25 people. It came out great! Everyone loved it. Since I made such a large amount, I mixed the potatoes and sauce in 2 different bowls so that I didn't damage the potatoes and combined them after they were mixed. I would totally recommend trying this recipe. Thank you to the publisher!

My DH and I loved this recipe. I used caramelized onions I already had in the fridge, and some beef bacon (I live in a Muslim country, so I can't get pork - it's very lean and looks and tastes nothing like real bacon, but it's smoky and delicious nevertheless). It was excellent. Thanks for a great new way for me to make potato salad!

This is an awesome recipe! I have made it twice now. I found that 3 pounds of potatoes and twice the sauce is perfect. "9 potatoes" is far too vague. We love bacon so I used a whole pound. I also added a splash more vinegar like some suggested. Very good!!

Great recipe! Since moving to Munich from the States, I eat potato salad every time we go out, trying to find my favorite recipe. I've tried a number of recipes for potato salad in the past few months; this takes the cake! I added 2 macintosh apples (cut in apple cutter, then sliced into thirds again, then boiled for 3-5 minutes) at the very end of the cooking. It was SO good. I also modified by adding a splash more vinegar and 1 Tbsp more sugar.

I like this to be a little more saucy, so I added just a little extra water and used just a little less potato. I also added an additional piece of bacon, but I'm thinking 2 extra pieces of bacon would be perfect.

Yummmmm! My two mistakes: cooking the potatoes for too long (they were somewhat mushy), and realizing I didn't have any kind of vinegar except balsamic. Even with these two elements, the dish was delicious. Otherwise, I prepared according to instructions using regular Idaho potatoes. I added some chopped green onions on top for color. Thanks for the recipe!!

The BEST german potato salad recipe! Just like the one I remeber my german relatives making when I was young. We like it "saucy" so I double the sauce.

I really liked this recipe! The only change made was omitting the salt, as the bacon adds enough saltiness. I'll be making it often.

Good stuff! I used extra bacon and one less potato. Definitely cut back on the salt, 2 t was too much especially since bacon is already salty.

Loved the taste but only one complaint...I would halve the sugar next time. Too sweet for my taste- but I like a bit of a pucker when I take a bite of my salad.

This was my first time eating, let alone making German Potato Salad...so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was good, but a little too sweet for my liking. My kids liked it, but echoed my sentiments. I will definitely make it again...only next time I will use little/no sugar. Thanks for sharing the recipe. :)

Just needed extra vinegar when used on new potatoes that were on the sweet side. Good method, better then an old recipe I've used for years. Glad it was available.

i love this recipe. i don't care how you feel about potato salad you must try this one. a lot of people raise their eyebrows when they think of vinegar in potato salad, but it works! my mother used to make this when we were younger and this is about as close to it that i have found. even she loves it. i tend to just use a whole package of bacon. everything is better with bacon and I double the sauce ingredients. potatoes soak up a lot of sauce. try it. you will not be disappointed! thanks for the recipe.
