For those who don't like the cold salads heaping with egg, this is your recipe. I add more bacon, 1/3 cup beef stock and use green onions instead of white. Fantastic!

This was delicious! And so easy to make. I also used red potatoes. A nice change from traditional mayo potato salad. Try it, you will be glad you did !

very good side dish when served with beer/brats, used double the amount of bacon and added balsamic vinegar instead of the white.

My guests and I enjoyed this dish, however, next time I'll add more vinegar to give it more zest. I'll be making this again in the future.

We quartered our potatoes and decided to add more sugar to the mixture as I think the recipe left it more on the salty side. We also didn't have fresh bacon and used prepared bacon bits and shortening. I'm sure it would rock with real bacon, though! I added a hard boiled egg to the mix just to add a little protein.

This was good, although it had sat overnight in the fridge, so it wasn't as creamy looking as in the picture. When I make it again, it will be when I can enjoy it immediately.

The flavor of this salad is nice. Using the bacon fat put me off a little, but that's probably why the flavor was so good! I served this warm, but I also enjoyed eating it cold the next day.

It's amazing how food can bring back such great memories. I made this for Memorial day dinner. As soon as I put it all together, the smell of it made me cry because it reminded me of my Oma that would make this when she would visit from Germany. This recipe is fantastic.

This is extremely good! I've tried many potato salads and this one is by far the best! I will continue to use this as my go to recipe. I followed the directions to a T. My husband likes a cold potato salad so I served this as such -I would prefer the hot salad, but it is just as delicious cold. Plus, no mayo means it can sit out for awhile longer if using at a picnic. :) A recipe worth submitting, thanks!!!

Good recipe, but I thought it was missing something... green onions for color? The taste was good, I tripled the recipe for a potluck for work- it was really easy to make, and you don't have to worry about refrigeration as much as w/ a mayo-based recipe. I thought that there were a bit too many celery ceeds, but I might have put in too many. Just beware to watch the ingredients you put in and you should be fine. My German husband said that what he remembers, is that his grandmother's sauce wasn't as thick, but this recipe tasted good and he liked it.

this is very much like my grandmother's recipe which I don't have. I used 5 large potatoes, only 1 tbsp sugar, added 1 tsp grainy mustard and 1 bay leaf. I used my grandmother method in which she brought the potatoes to boil, covered and turned off the heat, made sauce, drained potatoes, tossed with sauce, bake at 350 for 30 minutes and then stirred in bacon so it stays crispy. If you don't like vinegar then this isn't for you, it is supposed to be strong, very good thanks!

This was so good! I'd never made or had anything like it. It was a big hit at my house. I didn't have the celery seed, but it is still so yummy without.

I will admit, I was a bit wary of this recipe, since I generally hate potato salad. I needed to use up some potatoes, though, and I figured it was different enough from the potato salads that come in plastic boxes that I might like it. I LOVED IT, it tasted great as a side when we had grilled steak, and it was just as good reheated the next day. The only mod I made was to leave out the celery seed, but that's only because we didn't have any.
