For impromptu potions of hot buttered rum. this make-ahead mixture with brown sugar, butter, orange peel and apple pie spice is in the fridge and ready when you are. You can substitute 1/2 cup hot strong coffee or tea for the rum and boiling water.

This is the real thing - an authentic Colonial recipe except you use a slow cooker to simmer it. You will swear you are drinking a cinnamon roll and then it hits you! Very tasty and a family favorite.
