Honey White Loaves
SUBMITTED BY:
Lois Kamps
"When I was searching for a moist bread that wouldn't crumble when thinly sliced, a friend urged me to try her grandmother's age-old recipe. It slices perfectly."

DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the butter, honey, eggs, salt and 4 cups flour. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on medium for 3 minutes. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled; about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Divide into thirds. Shape into loaves. Place in three greased 8-in. x 4-in. x 2-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

I'm giving this five stars with a minor stipulation. I found the dough to be very easy to work with, the bread has a wonderful fluffy texture, rises full and high, slices beautifully. I followed the recipe and made two loaves of bread plus a pan of one dozen rolls. The rolls were some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend commented they were like the soft rolls you can get in restaurants. The honey flavor shines through, and made the best ham and cheese sandwiches ever. Now, for the MINOR stipulation--I don't care for this toasted! It toasts a little too crisp for me, but it would make GREAT bread crumbs. (For toast, I love the Amish white bread, also on this site.) All in all, I would make this again, would definitely use it to make hot rolls for a crowd (figure about 3 dozen rolls), or as sliced sandwich bread. So good!

One of the best breads I've ever had. I added 3/4 cup honey instead. I will DEFINATELY make this again. Got wonderful reviews from everyone who tried it. Make sure to use a really good quality honey because you can really taste it.

i went ahead and used 25% soy flour. I got a denser loaf, but slightly sweeter and chewier. delicious. I'm trying another 2 batches-1 with rooibos tea instead of water and the other with garlic powder and hotsauce mixed in.

Like DevinsMyNo.1Fan, I cut the recipe in half, but I ended up making one medium sized loaf & one small loaf. This bread is moist, slightly chewy, nice crust, and delicious flavor. I will definitely make again; I might sub a little WW flour, but that is the only change I would make. Great recipe!
