I started to make this in my Quisinart and almost burned it out! Switched to the Kitchen Aid stand mixer and then ended up kneading it by hand. I only changed it to 1/3 cup honey. The end result was DELICIOUS! I let the second raising go for an hour.

Incredible! This was my first attempt at bread making from scratch. And it turned out beautifully and everyone loved it. I have made it 2 times and am getting ready to make it a 3rd time in a week. I may never buy bread again this makes great sandwiches and my 2 yr old want toast made only with this bread. She actually eats the bread and not just the butter... Thanks so much for sharing.

My family absolutely loves this bread. The only problem is that it's all I want to eat! The two loaves went quickly around here, much faster than store-bought bread.

love this recipe.. really easy and used milk instead of evaporated milk and it worked great! the only thing that it does not say is to separate the yeast and water and sugar. Make sure you put those together until foamy and then add to the rest of the ingredients together..

Great results. Made the following changes as others suggested to make the second batch better than the first attempt. Added 1/4 c. wheat germ, used butter instead of shortening, added more flour (about 1/4 c.) when kneading, doubled all the different times required for raising the dough, heated oven 400 degrees for one minute for warm place to raised dough. I also used Pam spray to grease the bowl used to raise dough and bread pans. It is much easier. Use my hand mixer on low spead to add the 3 c. flour before kneading. The two loafs were great. Not as heavy as the first batch.

I made this is the bread machine (adjusted the recipe to 12 servings to make a 1.5 lb loaf and omitted the extra water) and it looked good. I prefer my bread a little sweeter though and this was sort of bland.

This is a fantastic recipe. I have made it 4 times now and have only made two small changes. First I add 1/3 cup of honey second, I use active dry yeast(because it's what I have) I let it rise about 1 hour 2o min. for the first rise and about an hour for the second (I put a small pan of boiling water on the bottom of the oven and shut the door to rise) I have to bake it for the full 35 min. so the bread is not under cooked, because of this the top seemed to burn before the bread was done. Now I check it at about 10-15 min to see if the top is brown and place a piece of foil over the top to prevent further browning. Everyone loves this bread! Thanks for the recipe!

This was my first attempt at making homemade bread, and I'm hooked. It came out beautifully. The only thing I would have changed, is adding more honey. Thanks for such a great recipe.

It came out very good. I also used the Kitchen Aide. I'm looking for something a little sweeter though. I think if I double the honey like some said and then adjust the other ingredients I would enjoy it more. Mom mom LOVES it though :o)

Although I love to cook and bake this was the first time I ever made homemade bread, other than in a breadmaker. I followed the recipe exactly, and my whole family loved it both fresh from the oven and a few days later. It was truly delicious. Considering the health benefits I don't know why anyone would make white bread from scratch when you could make whole wheat that tastes like this. My only other comment would be that going by the times suggested in the recipe, my bread didn't rise quite as much as it should have, and I did use rapid rise yeast. It may have been because my house is very cold! Next time I'll leave more time for rising.

This is amazing bread! I followed the recipe exactly, except that I put extra honey in it. It's amazing that any of it stays around long enough to get eaten with meals or as sandwiches, considering how great it is right out of the oven! This has become a real family favorite. Thanks for sharing!

An Excellant wheat bread!!! I doubled the honey but still didn't get much honey flavor in the finished loaf. I made a sandwich for my daughter and she said "I thought you wern't buying bread from the store anymore?" This will be my families wheat bread from now on!!!

Okay, I've made this recipe a couple times and I love it. The bread is easy to make and delicious. However I have a QUESTION for any of you that are experienced at breadmaking. I'm using 9x5 loaf pans and my bread comes out kinda squat (it's about level with the pan). I wish it would rise more as my main use for it is to make sandwiches. I follow the recipe exactly except I let the dough rise for twice as long as it says to (only until it doubles in size), and I knead it for exactly 10 minutes. Should I maybe double the yeast? Any tips/advice would be really appreciated! Thanks!
