The family I nanny for and my own family love this Mac and Cheese! I add whatever cheese I have...it always comes out AWESOME! The key is taking your time on making the sauce...slow add everything...

I've been using this recipe for years, it's the best. Sometimes I add a few diced tomatoes. It's the breadcrumb crust that makes it extra special.

I saute chopped onions, add dry powdered mustard, salt and pepper before I add the flour. Then add milk and heat and stir, adding lots and lots of grated old cheddar cheese, stir till all cheese is melted keeping the sauce fairly thin as it will thicken after the macaroni is added and baked. Top with buttered cracker crumbs and bake till bubbly and lightly browned. I have used this recipe forever.

This recipe is easy, but I agree with other reviewers who think it is a bit bland. I will make this again, but I will be sure to use more flavorful cheeses and/or herbs and spices of some sort. Those who have said that the sauce thickens once in the oven were right, I could see where it could become too dry. I might cut back a bit on the oven time or slightly reduce the temperature. I think this is a good base recipe for homemade macaroni and cheese, but it definitely needs a few alterations.

The bread crumb topping was ok, but I thought it was unusual. I am used to adding eggs to the liquid part of the recipe. Different, but good.

I made this exactly as written; however, I added diced onions. My boyfriend, who says I can not cook, said it gets 5 stars. I never made homemade mac and chz because I always thought it would be hard. This is as easy as pie!

I'm sorry but we made it exactly, the bread crums were soggy and I should have gone with my gut and just sprinkeled a few over the top.

Great! Be sure to use a sharp cheddar. It makes a huge difference.

Very good easy mac and cheese. I was thrilled to have all of the ingredients on hand ahead while searching for a lunch recipe. I made it in less then 20 min and devoured it! I used bronze cut rigatoni. I was making it for 1 so instead of baking it I ate it as soon as I mixed it with the cheese, instead of paprika I cracked some fresh black pepper at the end. Creamy and yummy classic!

LOVE this recipe! I also add sour cream and only use 2cups of (heavy cream) milk. Warm, cozy. perfect for chilly evenings. Some nites we add a beef smoked sausage-similar to the old weenies and macaroni, but better!

I tried this reciept and was dissapointed that it was not smooth. I got a grainy taste. Made sure that everything was blended well. Any suggestions what I did wrong..

I ate some, but I couldn't decide if it was good or not. It was really grainy (and I used fresh Parmesan) and not really cheesy (I added 1/2 cup of extra cheese) and home-style. It did get thicker when you put it in the oven, but it made way to much sauce!

I have already made this recipe about five times. It is the best! I made it for my son's kindergarten class and all the teachers and parents that were there said it was the best they'd ever had! My family also loves it!

This was good as long as the sauce and noodles were hot but as it began to cool the sauce got quite thick and paste-like.

I thought the consistancy came out great. It was nice and creamy, but we did not care for the flavor. I made this for Thanksgiving dinner and was a little disappointed. It did not give you that comfort food feeling.
