I made this recipe pretty much as written, only I used 1/2 sharp cheddar, 1/2 marble cheddar (instead of only cheddar).
Loved it! I agree, you must take the extra time with the sauce to prevent clumping.
It was a bit thick and dry when reheated the next day, but still yummy. (I would rate 4 1/2 stars because of this). Next time I'll make adjustments to try to avoid this.
Personally, I like bread crumb topping but I only add it for the last 15 min or so of baking. This recipe is just as good without it.
