Everyone who's tasted this is floored by how cheesy & creamy it is. And it smells incredible when it's baking!! The panko suggestion sounds wonderful, dan ~ I love panko and substitute it often for bread crumbs...I'll try it!

Great recipe! I changed it up a bit by reducing the cream cheese by half and adding extra sharp cheddar and jack. For the topping I used panko and mixed in cheddar cheese which really gave the topping some more texture and flavor. Awesome mac n' cheese!!!!!!

I followed other reviewers' suggestion and cut way back on the cream cheese. I also upped the amount of extra-sharp Cheddar by about another cup. Although we both really enjoyed the actual mac and cheese, we weren't too thrilled by the breadcrumb topping - was kind of "sandy" and not very pleasant. Next time I make this, I'll try using panko crumbs for more of a crunch. Not bad at all though. Thanks!

Great for Kids! I followed the recipe and it was creamy and delicious. The sauce is not too strong, perfect for kids.

This recipe is perfect. My entire family loves it, and I always serve it at parties. I always use bacon to top it off. It adds alot of flavor.

Good - but I agree with others that the cream cheese taste is a little overpowering. I like cream cheese, I just wouldn't eat it straight up! If I make again, I will cut back on the amount of cream cheese.

This was not for us. I think it should be called Cream Cheese and Mustard Macaroni. I assumed the cream cheese was just to add texture, not necessarily flavor. Boy, was I wrong. Personally, I'm not sure what the cream cheese did for the dish besides give it an odd flavor. I didn't find it to be any creamier than a normal mac and cheese. Same thing with the dijon. I can't think what merit it has over dry mustard powder besides overwhelming flavor. I would say this dish is "Adventurous" not "Home Style."

EXCELLENT. Have made several times. I also use almost a pound of noodles because it makes a lot of sauce. Make sure to use SHARP cheddar, or else the sauce will taste bland with just mild cheddar. Sometimes I mix in those fried onions with the bread crumbs which makes it taste even more amazing!

I LOVE this recipe. For those of you turned off by the cream cheese taste - try adding 2 cloves of minced fresh garlic to the cheese sauce while cooking. It really adds EXACTLY what this recipe needs! It's good without it too, but this garlic loving girl had to try it with it! And I don't regret it!

I didn't have any cream cheese, so I sub'd laughing cow light spreadable swiss. It was really good and creamy, but didn't have enough cheddar for my taste. I'll be using this recipe again, trying with more cheese!

I love mac & cheese. I love kraft mac & cheese, I love homemade, I love it all. My only issue is that it never seems to be very good the next day. I am on a quest to find awesome next day mac & cheese. The all cheddar recipes are too oily and the cheese seems to separate from the pasta. The following day everything is bland and the cheesy creaminess is gone. The velveeta recipes, have, well, too much velveeta, a suspicious cheez product that doesn't even require refrigeration. I've always tried a blend of the 2 to get the cheddary goodness w/ the velveeta creaminess, but it hasn't quite resulted in a noteworthy next day product. This recipe has brought me 85% closer to that goal. I modified only slightly, using half the cream cheese and subbing velveeta for the other half, and as someone else did, processed slivered almonds w/ the parsley to use as the topping in place of breadcrumbs. Increased the mustard a little bit, because I love the bite it gives. Yum, heaven the first day (eat as much as you can even if you have to sacrifice eating other foods that day) and pretty darn good the next day too!

I thought the dijon really gave it an odd flavor. We ended up throwing this out. I like some of the other homemade mac and cheese recipes on the site, suggest trying those instead.

Ok... this has to be the best Mac N Cheese recipes I've tried! I made the following changes... used 16 ounces of macaroni ('cause let's face it... 7 ounces isn't nearly enough!) 2 C. sharp cheddar and 2 C. Mozarella. Added 1/2 C. parmesan to 1 C. italian bread crumbs and cut with pastry blender to make the topping. Got RAVE reviews from whole family. Leftovers heated up well too... we ate this for 3 days! Will definitely make again!

I use this recipe sort of as a guide to making a stovetop mac & cheese. I double the pasta, omit the flour & only use 1/4 the amount of cream cheese. I only pop it into the oven for a few minutes to get a bit of browning on the top. My family isn't excited about fully baked mac & cheese so this is my compromise.
