1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, combine the soup, mushrooms, water and sage; set aside. In a large skillet, brown the pork chops on both sides in oil; top with onion. Pour soup mixture over top. Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
For dumplings, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, celery seed and sage in a bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until moistened. Drop by 1/4 cupfuls onto simmering soup mixture; sprinkle with parsley. Simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Cover and simmer 15 minutes longer or until a toothpick inserted in a dumpling comes out clean (do not lift cover while simmering).

This was delicious! And... My boyfriend who doesn't care for pork chops and who had no idea what a dumpling was, practically ate it all! The dumplings are delicious! Reminds me of my grandpa! It really is comfort food! Thank you...

I tried this recipe and it was absolutely delicious! My husband also enjoyed it very much. The dumplings and the gravy made with the cream of mushroom soup make this a wonderful "comfort food." I will definitely make this again.

This is a great recipe. I made it for the family minus the mushrooms. I did use the cream of mushroom soup however. I increased the water to a cup because the soup still seemed too thick. While it was simmering uncovered I was a little nervous about how it would turn out, but after it simmered covered, the dumplings turned out great, and the soup made a wonderful gravy. Oh, and I am not a big fan of onions, so i just threw some dried minced onion on top of the chops before the soup. I will make this recipe again, only next time I will use two cans of soup and a cup or so of water, so I have more gravy in the end.
