With meat, potatoes and other vegetables, this rich-tasting soup is really a meal in one. Process cheese sauce makes it taste like a cheeseburger. I serve this soup with a nice crusty loaf of French bread. - Ione Sander, Carlton, Minnesota

Filling soups like this make it easy to get through cold New England winters. The meatballs are extra-easy because they cook in the soup...there's no need for browning beforehand.

My mom used to make this during cold winter nights to warm us up. Now I make it all the time because it not only warms you up, it soothes the soul. This recipe is perfect for using up leftover rice and pasta sauce. You can change the recipe to suit your tastes; use your favorite jarred sauce if you don't have any homemade, or use your own family's meatball recipe!

'I adapted the original recipe for this flavorful soup so I could make it in the slow cooker,' writes Lydia Kroese from Minnetonka, Minnesota. 'It's ideal for staff luncheons at the school where I work, since we don't have easy access to a stove or oven.'

This dish was a favorite of Mom's. She passed the recipe on to me when I got married. Now it's become one of my family's favorites, too! It's delicious and satisfying, and calls for ingredients I almost always have on hand.
