This an excellent recipe whether you serve it with fish or steak. You can use saltine crackers crushed when you don't have cornflake crumbs. flavor is just as good.

Thanks for this great Hash Brown Casserole recipe. We made this for a wedding party of 135. We are still getting great reviews from people who were at the wedding! The ratio we put in worked out perfectly with only a little left over! Thank You!! Annette White, Hawarden, Iowa

I have made this casserole for years and it is a family favorite-with a few minor adjustments. I always use cream of mushroom soup, then bake with no topping for 45 min. Remove from oven, and sprinkle 1 cup plain rice krispies (not the frosted ones!) over the top, drizzle with melted margarine/butter, add some snipped green onions and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Return to oven for 15-20 minutes...and ENJOY!

Made this for Father's Day. It was a big hit. Modifications: 1/4 cup of melted butter, cream of mushroom soup, colby shredded cheese instead of cheddar [has a tendency to be really greasy]. Other than that I followed the recipe as given. Will definately make this again!

I usually don't bother with a topping on this...and I usually use cream of mushroom soup. This is a fantastic recipe. Ultimate comfort food, and super convenient, since it uses frozen hashbrowns. Thanks! :-)

Another great standard recipe. My husband loves it especially. I like the variation of the onions on top.

This was easy to make and it tasted great! I used shredded hash brown potatoes and cream of mushroom soup. I also used both cornflakes and the canned fried onions on the top. I reduced the 1/2 cup butter to 1/4 cup and it was still yummy. I brought it to a club breakfast and got requests for the recipe. I will be making this one again!

This recipe is so great, it should be a staple at every cookout! I added 1 can of French Fried Onions on the top of the casserole during the last 5 mintues of baking and it turned out wonderfully. YUM!

I didn't add the half cup of butter and I used Cheddar Sunchips as that was all I had on hand. Turned out great! Everyone loved them.

Served this for a brunch where I also served ham. Everyone loved it and went back for seconds. I did use cream of mushroom because that is what I had in my pantry. I did read the other reviews and did not sautee the cornflakes just placed them on the casserole and then drizzled the butter over them. I had to split it into two casserole dishes because the larget dish I had was the 2 1/2 quart corningware. Will definitely make again!

There's lots of Hash Brown Casseroles out there, but I like this one. I don't use the topping because I'm not a real topping kind of person. The basic casserole tastes great w/o it. I also cut our 1/2 of the butter, didn't seem to need it. Thanks for the recipe

I got rave reviews and requests for the recipe. I followed others advice and used french fried onions on top. I also used a low fat soup and sour cream. I made it the day before, set it out one hour before baking and baked it off for 50 minutes before adding topping and the baked it 15 more minutes. A winner.

This was really yummy! I only used 1/4 cup of melted butter... we love onions so we mixed in some dry chives along with the onion it calls for & on top some French Fried Onions... I think alot could be done with this recipe though. Next time I think I might try some ham in it!

Excellent, tasty potato casserole. I also used the cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream of chicken and I cooked it for 45 minutes and then topped it with french fried onions (crumbled) and then cooked for another 15 minutes. yummy!
