Not good if you are watching your calories, but I only serve this maybe once a year on a holiday. Everyone loves it. I prefer sharp cheddar over medium. I don't use the crushed cornflakes on top, but otherwise follow the recipe as written.

Excellent!!! The only changes I made was I sauteed the onions in the butter, added more cheese on the top and used potato chips. Can't wait to make again.

Totally easy and equally delicious! YUM!!! I made it as written here except I didn't saute the cornflakes, just crushed them, dumped them on top after about 40 minutes of cooking, drizzled some melted butter, and cooked for another 15 or so minutes. SO GOOD.

Excellent recipe! Can be done with the cubed potatoes or shreds. I don't do the topping and it's still awesome. A little tip - the more firmly you pack the casserole (smoosh it down) the quicker and more evenly it will cook - but I still have to cook it for over an hour, especially when I do it in one large dish (I often break it into two smaller and freeze one for later!) A family favorite in my house! Thanks!

Found this while looking for a side dish to go with our dinner fritatta. Very yummy. I made a couple of adjustments for personal preference & based on what I had on hand. Didn't have any frozen hash browns so I shredded 4 large potatoes in the food processor & rinsed them. I used condensed cheddar soup instead of cream of mushroom & I omitted the topping all together because I didn't have corn flakes. I also omitted the butter in the potato mix, there was plenty of liquid with the soup & sour cream. I ended up cooking for about an hour to get the desired tenderness. I took the lid off for the last 15 minutes or so in order to reduce the liquid down.

This is really yummy! I didn't have any frozen hash browns so I shredded some potatoes and rinsed the starch from them. Also instead of using cornflakes for the top I used French's onions.

This was very good, I made a few changes and it was so yummy. I used a can of chedder cheese soup, and a can of Chedder cheese and broccoli soup. I also added cubed ham, to make it a one dish casserole for dinner. It was so good, and melted in your mouth. My children loved it (I have very picky eaters all boys ages 5,3, and 1) and they ate every bite and the oldest asked for seconds..lol..I did use Colby jack shredded cheese, along with chedder on top as we like cheese, and I sauteed the onions. Very very good! This is a keeper in our house!

This recipe is quick and easy - followed it as stated. I put mine in a 13x9 baking dish and it came out great. A little much for my husband and myself so I froze the balance and we ate at a later date. Freezes GREAT!

This recipe is great! We all just love it. I only changed one thing. I used French's french fried onions to top this with rather than corn flakes. I haven't tried the corn flakes, so I don't know which one is better. I just know that it's awesome with the onions!

This is so good and tasty..my family thinks it's Excellent. I didn't have the cornflakes so made it without, also only half the sour cream, and 3 tbls of butter. Still fantastic, in the future I will make it with the cornflakes to see what were missing.

I use this recipe all the time for family get-togethers. Everyone loves it! I don't change any of the standard ingredients but may sometimes add Onion Onion flavoring from Tastefully Simple--it'll add a great amount of extra flavor. I do usually double everything except the butter and potatoes (but I usually use about a 30 oz package of potatoes) and bake it in a 9 x 13 Pampered Chef rectangular baker.

Very good. Not what I was looking for, but the SO and I still liked it. Made way too much; baked 1/2 right away, froze other 1/2. Perfect from freezer also. Would definitely use fried onions as topping if available in pantry. =)

I turned to this recipe when what I had planned for dinner didn't pan out. I typed in "hash browns" in the ingredient search, and this was the first recipe that came up. I used a bag of OreIda hash browns, the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, about a cup of shredded Italian blend cheese, the melted butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. I didn't have corn flakes, so I sauteed Corn Chex with butter and put that on top. I also added a can of corn to the mixture. It looked kinda weird with the Corn Chex, but it tasted awesome. Great base recipe!

My family prefers the method with the Cheez Whiz & Potatos O'Brien. Not really for us. On the upside it was easy.
