My husband says this is one of his favorites! For a quick recipe, this is really good. Great for potlucks too!

My husband loves shepherd's pie but I find it bland. This is the perfect combination for both of us. I didn't have shredded potatoes but I had the O'Brien version with peppers and onions. It worked just a well. Next time we'll try the shredded. Also omitted the french-fried onions - just our personal preference.

My favorite part of this dish is how simple it is. Although I have to say it was extremely greasy but it was still good. I didn't have the fried onions, but it still turned out good without it. I also used a can of green beans in place of the frozen vegetables. If you are up for something quick and easy though, this is the dish to pick!

I didn't have any french fried onions. oh well. It was good though. The hashbrowns stayed mushy, I don't know if they were supposed to be crispy or not. It would have been better if they were crispy though. the only real change I made besides not having french fried onions was that I added a teaspoon of habanero sauce ( we like things spicy) and since i didn't have the french's onions i diced some fresh onion in with the ground beef and threw in a little garlic too. oh and I added a few dashes of worcestershire sauce as someone else recommended. I would make this again for sure.

Oh my, this is the ultimate in comfort food. Definitely not the best for you, but not all that bad either. I left out the veggies and french fried onions. I also cooked potato crust for 30 minutes per everyone's suggestion. Yummmmmmm. Serve with a salad for the veggie side.

Husband said "you can put this on the list" - which means He Like It!! I didn't have any french onions, not enough grated cheese & used a can of mixed vegetables (instead of frozen) & it still turned out ok. Interesting texture with hash browns.

made this tonight and my family really liked it. I also left out the veggies and added about 5 drops of Worcestershire sauce and a teaspoon of fresh minced garlic when I added the brown gravy and water. I had about 1/2 cup of Mexican style shredded cheese which I substituted for part of the cheddar cheese. It really tasted like a cheeseburger and fries mixed together in a casserole! A keeper!!

This was pretty good and easy to make. I cut the vegetables back to about 8 oz. and also cut back on the french fried onions, just a personal preference. I used Trader Joe's french fried onions. They taste a little better than the other brand (French's?) This will easily feed 4 - 6 people, unless they are very big eaters.

I shake my head as there is so much processed and packaged ingredients in this, but my boyfriend absolutely loves this and I really like it too. I've made it a couple of times already. As another reviewer noted, 15 minutes for the "crust" really isn't enough; I also went 30 minutes, anything less and the potatoes still have a raw, gluey taste to me. Probably not really good for you, but it sure tastes good!

Very tasty and very easy. I'll definitely make this again. I didn't add the veggies, as my husband doesn't like them in casseroles. Worked just as well without them. My family of 10 said the recipe was a keeper; from Dad right down to the 3 year old! That's a real testimony.

I found the hash browns took 1/2 hour--I finally turned up the oven to 400 degrees to get them nice and crunchy. Sautee real onions and garlic, splash in a bit of worcestershire sauce to give it a deeper flavor. I also added both corn and peas---Yummy!

I thought this was very good. While making this my husband wasn't excited about it and he suggested I put a layer of mashed potatoes on top followed by the fried onions. While it may have been a bit of startch overload, it was actually very good! Also, I cooked the hashbrowns longer to make them crispier.

Pretty good. I think the best way to describe it is an upside-down tater tot casserole. The french fried onions running through it was a nice touch.
