SUBMITTED BY:
Robin Friedly
"Entertaining is easy with this homespun strata that features broccoli, ham and cheese. You assemble it the night before you need it, so there's no last-minute fuss."

This was really good. The only things I would change is adding more ham and egg, and also having the broccoli mix topped with the egg, then have the layer of bread on top covered with additional cheese and then the paprika. My bread soaked up all the egg when it was in the middle and was a soggy texture, not the best to eat.

I loved the propensity of veggies in this dish, which lends it a chewy texture. The spices are just right for a flavorful breakfast dish. Because I didn't have all the ingredients on hand, I subsituted cream cheese with two packages of different Boursin flavors: salsa/chipotle and garlic/onion. I also had only 2 cups of cheddar cheese, so it was consequenty a little lighter. (not a bad thing.) The other change I made was to layer first the bread, then the veggies, ending with a layer of bread on the top, pouring the egg mixture over it.

My daughter and I made this for the morning of my brother's wedding. The bride, bridesmaids, my sister and all of the girls were at my house. This, a fruit salad, some croissants and mimosas, it was a perfect breakfast for such an event.

This was really great - I left off a star since I did change it a bit to make the strata a bit healthier but the combination of flavors was great and it re-heats really well, which is a big plus for me!
