Great recipe, my husband wanted something he could take into the woods with him and keep in a cooler. Well this fit the bill. I mixed it up for what I had here at the house. But I will make it the way it calls for next time.

This has been the best recipe I have found to date. I did change it up a bit, i added dill and oregano to the bread batter and have made it both with hamburger (top with garlic salt when done) and chicken. I also added lots of cheese when i spread the filling which made this much better. This is now the most requested item at parties! It also does well for a camping meal, reheats nicely over a campfire when wrapped in tinfoil. Thank you for sharing this!

My two year old loved this, and so did I. I didn't have veg. oil on hand, so I used olive oil. We minced the onion, crushed the garlic, and sauteed those in a drop or two of olive oil. I replaced the tomatoes with 6 tablespoons of plain tomato paste, and used diced shaved smoked ham. We dipped the finished product into tomato sauce. The ends, made nice little mozza cheese sandwiches when warm. Still a touch dry, but a very nice bread, and a tomato-based dip is an excellent addition.
