This is an awesome recipe. I added about a tsp of garlic powder and about a half tsp of garlic salt. After I added the ham and potatoes it cooked up really really thick, so I just added about cup or so more of milk so it was not too thick. It came out great. Yummmmmmm. Thanks. I am going to give some to my 2 year old grandson when he wakes up. Then we shall see.........LOL

The PERFECT comfort soup for a winter day! I used some ideas from prior reviewers by adding in jalepeno's and corn. Wonderful! I also used heavy cream 2 cups and 1 cup water to make it thicker. The cheese is a perfect finish to this soup. Also a great way to use up any left over veggies! Thanks!

This was my second attempt at a homemade soup and this time it was perfect. I used left over ham at Christmas and made this for my family and they loved it. The only thing I would change would be to use less cheese other than that it was very simple

I followed the recipe except used my own ratio for the rue and cheese(2 tbsp. flour, 2 tbsp. butter and, 2 cups milk, and 2 cups cheese) shredded one carrot and added a can of corn with red and green peppers. 4 servings The corn gave it a slight southwestern taste, I couldn't imagine making it again without it. Five stars my way!

I added in a can of creamed corn and a can of regular corn. Also, about 1/2 c. of extra cheddar cheese and 2 jalapeno peppers. Some extra salt and some garlic salt and "voila" - wonderful soup! This soup thickens very nicely and is hearty and tasty for a great fall or winter treat. With all the cheese kids should love it too!

This was very good, my kids loved it. As another person suggested, I did cook it on low for quite awhile, which helped with the veggies to absorb the flavor. I would definately make this again.

Opposite to the previous review, I felt 3 cups of cheese would have made the soup too thick. It is a little bland, but I think it is because the potatoes didn't have enough flavor in them yet. It definitely needs more seasonings (salt, pepper, onion powder) and to sit for a bit so that the vegetables can absorb the flavor.

This was very average. It needs more salt and I think maybe some extra kick, maybe another cup of cheese also. I think if I did it again, I would leave the ham out. It's almost a distraction from the chowder. If this was a cheddar potato chowder it would have rated a 4 star.
