My Irish husband, who is also the better cook of the two of us, raved and ravished this dish. Only problem was I didn't make enough. I made it in a very large slow cooker and will add more vegetables and potatoes and another bottle of stout to ensure everything is covered. What a great and incredibly easy recipe guaranteed to succeed!

Delicious! CHANGES: Cooked in slow cooker for 3 hours on high. I added half a tablespoon of peppercorns, half choppped onion, and a teaspoon of garlic. Also used the packet of seasoning/spices that came with the beef. Two hours into cooking I added potatoes, carrots, and lettuce. I also used 2 bottles of Guiness. TIPS: The first time I made this I didn't drain out all the spices and peppercorns from the sauce. Because of this it stuck to the vegetables and made it more difficult to eat. The second time I waited for the meat to cook and removied it, drained the sauce so seasonings won't get stuck to veggies and let cook for an hour.

This is a really great recipe! I first tried this out for St. PAtrick's Day. I use a point cut of corned beef and trim as much fat as possible before placing it in the crockpot. This helps to make it less greasy. My husband loved it! He's a bit of a picky eater and he's asked me to make it several times since March. This recipe has found a permanent place in my collection.

Can I say Oh my goodness!!! I was a little worried from doing anything diffrent than the usual boiled dinner, but my hubby said anything with beer in it must be good lol! I'm not a big fan of the beer flavor & thought I was going to ruin dinner....but it was AWESOME!!! Best corned beef recipe ever! I will from now on be using this & only this recipe! And it couldn't have gotten any easier either! I did mine in a crock pot & the only issue I had was that I should of added more liquid, either in water or beer cause my veggies were still a little harder than I like. But even still it was delicious!!!

Have made this 2 years in a row, and a couple times in between, and it's a keeper. I'm OCD about trimming the fat off, I know!, but it's still so good! I use a little less sugar, and it still comes out great. Throw in veggies anytime, I save for last couple hours, and you'll have a great meal & lunch the next day!

This was really good, I ended up cooking it in the crock pot for 4 hours on low and 2 hours on high, was very tender. I think I would have liked a little stronger taste, even cooking it with only beer, still was just a little too mellow. Cooked all vegetables with it except for the cabbage. Even my little kids loved it.

Please note that you should LOVE Guinness or atleast like it if you want to enjoy this. It is just ok, but i personally would have enjoyed a more traditional water cooked corn beef for the flavor of Guinness is not one i cared for. If you expect it to just taste like something or other, dont, it will simply taste like a brisket that is flavored in Guinness. I shredded the beef and added mustard to mine and that killed some of the flavor but overall not a flavor i enjoyed.

This was really good. I recommend starting off with two cans of beer. I added more beer before putting in vegies to cook and it made the vegies somewhat bitter. Although, my hubby who doesn't care much for corned beef didn't think so. Also, rather than use the cheap cut, it is so worthwhile to use the flat cut!

flavor with the guiness is great but don't recommend adding vegtables with it. this is a very good recipe but my personal preference is the more with the traditional corned beef. Nice to have a way of using guiness since it is too strong for me to drink :)

Good stuff. Not only my first time making corned beef, but first time eating it! I placed the meat in the beef as some ofers suggested and it came out super moist. May try again with my husbands favorite beer shimay since it is heavy like guinness.

Terrific! Hubby and kids all loved it- none left for sandwiches, unfortunately. I did cook in crock pot with seasoning packet, carrots (to act as rack of sorts) and a scant bottle of Guinness (had to make sure it was good!). I was worried since hubby doesn't tend to like sweet and savory meats but the beer and sugar really balanced out the salty meat. Will make this every year. Thanks!

I cooked the corned beef in a roasting pan and did it just the way the instructions say to and it came out AMAZING. I was just cooking for two so I got a 2 1/2 lb brisket from the deli and I just wished I would have bought a bigger piece so I had more left overs. Reuben's, Corned beef hash. Mmmmm. My only recommendation would be to put the cabbage and veggies in the sooner then the last hour.

This was a hit with my family for St Patty's Day. I made three corned beef flats (about 12 lbs, fat trimmed off), put them in crockpots. I divided two bottles of beer and the cup of brown sugar between them. Cooked on high for five hours. I preboiled the potatoes for ten minutes then added the last 90 minutes. I suctioned some juice from the crockpot to cook the cabbage in separately on the stovetop. The guys loved this. It's going to be my new method from now on.
