Everyone loves grilled cheese, and I read all the reviews. It's an amazing sandwich when I use a little mayo on the outside, and a little pesto on the inside and some garlic salt before cooking in the pan. What an amazing gourmet treat to serve with tomato soup. Of course, this ia another recipe alltogether, but thanks for reminding me about grilled cheese. I'd gone so gourmet lately, I'd forgotten about this simple comfort food.

This was pretty darn good. I used french bread, and this irish garlic/herb butter, and a smear of mayo on the insides with provolone.

UMMM! GOOD STUFF! Hubby's away for the weekend and i was thinking what to have that would be quick and easy. Looked in the cupboard and decided to make a toasted sandwich: Bread buttered outside, thin layer mayo inside, sliced cheese, thin slices mushrooms, salt, pepper, another layer cheese, bread buttered on outside. Toasted slooowly on stove to get cheese melty. Eat while watching favourite TV show.

I have laughed so hard over this until my cheeks hurt!! But seriously, yall are all right, this is the most awesomeist beginners recipe out there. Its the first thing I taught my son to cook. BUT, my two cents is this, back when I was kid and hung out at my sister's house, her husband would cook us his version of Grilled Ham and Cheese. Here's how, Two slices of fresh white bread, few slices of thinly sliced ham and cheddar cheese. ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BREAD, spread butter and sprinkle with garlic salt. ON THE INSIDE, add whole grain mustard on the HAM side. ON THE CHEESE SIDE INSIDE, add a small smear of mayo. Grill on MED LOW heat until goldenly toasted. Ohh and dont forget the side bowl of tomato soup. Ya gotta dip it in tomato soup, its just like a MUST DO! (Im still crackin up over this...LOLOL)

My mother-in-law once invited us over for lunch, made us grilled cheese sandwiches...and forgot to put the cheese in. Perhaps if she had a written recipe in front of her it would have been different??? Anyway, this is a quick, easy, comfort food meal and extremely versatile - my favorite is provolone on sundried tomato and basil bread....yum!

You know, I agree with the last review... there IS an art to this.... I used to make them on a grill for hundreds of people a day... and it's not easy, thanks for giving everyone here a great basis to learning the "art of making a great grilled cheese"...

Cheez Whiz and a thin slice of ham in place of the cheddar. Now you have something.

Believe it or not, there are people in this world who can't make a grilled cheese sandwich. Note the heat should be medium, or maybe even medium-low. Slow cook to allow the cheese time to melt without burning the bread. Also note it's sliced cheese. My son has *maybe* come close to perfecting keeping grated cheese between the slices of bread, but I'd like to debate that. At least I don't have to clean the pan after him anymore. That's about the only good thing I can think of regarding kids growing up and leaving!

While watching a cooking program the cook's were once again oooing and ahhhing over their latest gourmet dish. I said to my husband yeah well you know what I'll take a grilled cheese and will love it as much. You really can't beat it for ease of preparation and flavor. Fabulous recipe, a heavenly creation for sure!

Simply a classic and always a favorite. I usually add some green chilies or jalapenos to it and really spice it up. Also, sometime my bread is toasting faster than the cheese is melting. To speed up the melting, just cover the pan with a lid or another pan--the steam melts the cheese perfectly.

Sometimes I add a bit of pesto sauce for some yummy kick. Surprisingly, it still works well with American cheese. For those looking for a spectacularly melty cheese experience, use velveeta pre-sliced american cheese. it's incredible.

My husband and I love to have grilled cheese for lunch. One thing that I do to make it more filling is I will also but some lunch meat such as turkey with the cheese. It's a little harder to flip but the end result is worth it!

Gotta tell ya....this is my comfort food. My husband makes the best and he uses 100% whole wheat bread, I can't believe it's not butter spray and velveeta. I can use the same ingredients and mine doesn't taste like his. He makes it with love...usually when I need comforted. Good with chicken noodle soup when you have the stuffies :)
