Green Beans with Almonds
SUBMITTED BY:
Ruth Andrewson
"A touch of lemon juice gives a fresh taste to this simple side dish from Ruth Andrewson of Leavenworth, Washington. 'Slivered almonds look so pretty with the French-style green beans, and they add a tasty crunch, too,' she notes."

I was looking for a little something different for my beans and this was it. Easy and quick. My hubby even like them, and he doesn't do veggies well!

I thought that this was okay-it was a nice alternative to steamed green beans. However at the last minute I tweaked it because it was a bit bland. I added garlic powder, red wine vinegrette, and a bit of sugar. I also used fresh green beans. My hubby liked it but my 2 little ones (who like green beans) didn't.

This was delicious! I steamed fresh green beans until crisp tender and used olive oil instead of butter. Watch the almonds closely -- they burn fast!! I ended up adding some Trader Joe's Dry Toasted sliced almonds at the end to compensate for some "overdone" almonds!!

I found that toasting thinly sliced almonds real toasted was best. Also added homemade bacon bits. Very nice.
