These green beans and potatoes are a spectacular dish. I have been making them for years in large quantities for special events at my church. The smoked turkey tails make an excellent broth that is seasoned beyond words. Let the meat cook until it falls off the bone for the ultimate flavor, at least 2 hours.

Cheesy Green Beans

Cheese and bacon liven up plain green beans. This dish can be served immediately after preparing, but I often refrigerate it overnight to let the flavors blend together, then reheat it in a 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven until heated through.

This soothing side dish is so much nicer than plain beans and potatoes. Mother relied on hearty downhome recipes such as this one. Now I also cook it for my family. --Lisa Andis, Morristown, Indiana
