The tattered recipe card for this corn bread proves it's been a family favorite to years. Although my daughter enjoys it anytime, they mostly request it at Thanksgiving.

I serve this rich cake-like bread and its creamy chocolate honey butter often at Christmastime. It makes a great brunch item, but it also goes well on a dinner buffet. This recipe won me a 'Best in Category' award in a local cooking contest. -Patrice Bruwer, Grand Rapids, Michigan

'Cinnamon swirled through the batter gives this bread its pretty pattern', informs Aloma Robinson from Clarkston, Michigan. 'It looks so fancy yet is very simple. It freezes well, too.'

This is an easy, quick recipe for cornbread that's dense, and adjustably sweet. It will smell great as it bakes and comes out with a great golden crust. It can accompany anything. I love it served with salad, soup, or chili. Add herbs for extra flavor.

MY GRANDMOTHER would refer to this recipe as 'comfort food', made from ingredients available on the farm or staples found in her pantry. She always cooked the corn bread in her 'seasoned' black skillet, and it turned out slick as butter every time. -Elizabeth Cooper, Madison, Alabama

Great-Grandmother Steinbeck's Johnnycake (Cornbread)

I've been making this since I was about 5 years old when my grandmother, Agnes Steinbeck Bowman decided I was old enough to learn to cook. I've never tasted better cornbread in my 47 years (the cornbread made by the old cook at our cafeteria came close!)
