This is fantastic! I doubled the recipe, used french fried onions on top instead of the crackers, omitted the onion, and used about 2/3 of the cheese (mixed 1/2 of the cheese into the casserole).

This was fine and they ate it all, but my family asked me to go back to the kind on the can of french fried onion rings.

This is a great recipe that my family has made several times. I've made it with fresh green beans from the garden and also canned beans. Fresh is definietly the way to go.

This was a HUGE hit at Thanksgiving this year. I used 2 bags of fresh frozen french style green beans. Cooked them and then added them to this recipe. Delicious!! Everyone wants the recipe!

I tried this recipe for the first time on Thanksgiving, and was very nervous about not doing the "traditional" soup recipe for the green beans. I have to say that this recipe is so much more flavorful than the traditional recipe and I will never go back. Even my husband who is not big on green beans said it was excellent and had seconds!! The only change I made was using the fried onions on top instead of the crackers.

I will never make the stuff from a can again! I loved this green bean casserole. The cracker crust was wonderful. At first I was worried about the cheese; it just didn't seem like something that would work in green bean casserole, but I couldn't even tell it was there. It was so much better than the green bean casserole I have been making for years. Thanks so much for a wonderful recipe!

So good! I was a little anxious about not making the traditional green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup and french onions on top, but I have to say this was delicious. My husband said it was the best he's ever had. I think I still might prefer the cream of mushroom version slightly more, but this was definitely a nice change.

My family raved over this, better than the traditional green bean casserole. It was very easy to make. I didnt add the Ritz crackers. The cheese on top is an excellent addition!

I tried this for Thanksgiving as an alternative from the traditional casserole, especially after seeing all the great reviews. This was a bust, not very good. I followed the recipe to a tee, and did not add as much salt, and the flavor was not right at all. I won't be trying this again.

It's missing something for me and I can't figure out what. I left out some of the sour cream as other suggested and it was still creamy. I also mixed cheese in and added it on top. I even added those french fried onions but still not the same as the kind made with soup...

LOVED this recipe!! So much better than using mushroom soup! I doubled the butter and flour using seasoned flour I keep in the pantry for breading when I fry chicken. My family is picky so I omitted the diced onion but still tasted great because my seasoned flour has onion powder in it. I also used french fried onions rather than crackers because I love them but I think I will try the crackers next time. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!! It will take the place of the old one from now on!!

Hooray - a change from the icky fried onion casseroles! I sauteed the onions with some garlic in a bit of olive oil, added fresh green beans and then added the flour mixed with the other dry ingredients (halved the salt as others suggested), leaving out the butter entirely. I used fat free sour cream, fat free shredded cheddar, and low-fat Ritz crackers. I will probably use reduced fat cheese next time, as the fat free does not melt very nicely.

I was a bit concerned how this dish would turn out after reading other members' reviews, but it was absolutely fantastic! My first time making it was for a Thanksgiving feast with friends- talk about a gamble! The only things I changed was sauteeing the onions (added 1/4 cup chopped crimini mushrooms) first and mixing the cheese in with the beans prior to coating with the cracker crumbs. It got rave reviews from the diners- this dish is now in my permanent recipe collection!

Disappointing. I thought it had too much sour cream and way too much cheese. The texture was just wrong. It tasted OK, but I can't understand why this is getting such high ratings. I will not make this again.

This recipe turned out really good for our Thanksgiving dinner. I left out the fried onions because the family was not a fan of them and it still turned out great. The only thing that I would change would be to use less salt. I think the cheese I used added more salt than I planned. Good recipe!

This was absolutely out of this world! The BEST dish on the Thanksgiving table. Wow! However, I must admit that I used much of momma_s’ suggestions, which is the “most helpful” review for this recipe – EXCEPT I did not mix cheese or French fried onions in with the green beans NOR did I add extra cheese. I used fresh steamed green beans (HUGE difference), reduced the sour cream to about ¾ cup, added black pepper and 1.5 tsp or garlic powder. I mixed half a can of crushed French fried onions in with the crackers and doubled the butter at this point. 500 stars! A winner!
